The author writes this article as though it is an indictment of Trump’s tariffs. But the real indictment is car culture. When your people say they can’t get food without a car, that’s a problem. Society is broken.

“Like, the party of limited government is gonna go out and, ‘say we’re gonna have [a car tax]?’”
Maybe the party of limited government should stop being communist for cars. Maybe the party of fiscal responsibility could get drivers to cover their costs. politico.com/live-updates/2…

Another great reason to keep Lincoln Square car free! chicago.suntimes.com/environment/20…

Perhaps these prices will start to reflect the actual cost of these products?
Let’s be more intentional about this #Degrowth

@UrbanCourtyard Why stop there? Just pedestrianize the whole thing! Stem to stern!
English

What streets would you pedestrianize in your neighborhood??

"It took us few weeks of tactical implementation to reclaim it as a public space... The children needed just a couple of hours to transform it into a playground.” 📍 Milan 🇮🇹

@arbitrageAli @JGrantGlover Cyclists still much yield to vehicles with the right of way. So cyclists only don’t stop if no one else has priority. This doesn’t give cyclists permission to take priority. So a cyclists who comes to an intersection with waiting cars must stop and let those with ROW proceed.
English

@JGrantGlover Genuine question - what is the logic here? What is the expectation of drivers at say a 4 way stop. That drivers don't also have to know when its their turn to go but also to monitor bikers coming in from 4 directions?
English

Illinois might finally legalize the safety (aka "Idaho") stop! That's extremely awesome, because it sets a precedent that rules for cars should be different from rules for bicycles. They are not the same! They shouldn't have the same rules!

The bill that would allow people biking to treat stop signs as yield signs has passed the IL Senate with an overwhelming majority! Thanks to everyone who took action in the past few days and big thanks to @SenMikeSimmons for his work on the bill. ilga.gov/legislation/Bi…

@Boenau @Jalopnik It’s wild to me that this isn’t obvious to our leaders already! Plus, car payments are monies leaving the community. That $1k/mo wouldn’t just be back in their pockets, it could easily be spent locally! It could also just become fewer hours worked! And that’s the best. #DeGrowth

"If low-income workers could live without a car, that would put a whole lot of money back in their pockets, and that's exactly what congestion pricing does."

@Driving_Is_Sin Email and call him to ask him to sponsor both bills!!

@cornoisseur do you ever read this absurd rag? Even a broken clock is right twice a day! illinoispolicy.org/illinois-looks…
English

@cornoisseur Glad my rep Hoan voted yes! Glad it passed! Idiotic that the free market loving GOP hate the freedom to make fiscally responsible housing.
English

@Driving_Is_Sin Illinois GOP supports ADUs, but not missing middle housing.
They voted to advance ADUs in the housing committee, but voted against missing middle.

@UrbanCourtyard @zachklein @AldMattMartin @40thforward Crazy how powerful car driving NIMBYs have become, isn’t it? We should install these on Wilson by Waters school because we know no politician will calm traffic there!
English

The city said it would take three years to install a speed bump. So I bought my own on the Internet for $98.
