@BioavailableNd And yet people have pets and children... There's nothing harmful about any of this being trodden around the house, outside of it leaving visible marks or crud that you can feel and step on.

@MoneyIsClear @smokefatsalt Was avocado toast ever a cheap option? In the areas that popularised it, avocados would always have been somewhat of a premium option, surely? It's an inherently hard to transport very time sensitive fruit.

@smokefatsalt Same thing happened to avocado toast, ramen, and chicken wings. Poor people food gets discovered, gets branded, gets a $24 price tag and suddenly the people it came from can't afford it anymore.

The saddest part about BBQ is it used to be poor people food. Used cheap cuts and slow smoked them till tender. Today it is more expensive than a typical steakhouse, charging $36/lb for brisket. Worst thing to happen to BBQ ever is it became popular. Now get off my lawn

@naranciagaming Not sure how this is casual elitism. In fact, it's kinda the opposite. It's the try hards that care only about making a game perfect for their needs and cranking out the "get food" line to anyone that dares disagree that is the very definition of elitism.

this era of casual elitism in gaming, where people get hated on just for getting good and learning tech, is becoming completely absurd. indistinguishable from a toddler throwing a temper tantrum because his dad didn't let him win at uno

@HlNOMARUSUMO @IanCutress Er... It took many more years for ray tracing to be viable for even high end cards. Meanwhile quadro was so expensive because it's pro hardware. The $699 RTX 2080 was faster in games. We're now talking about two immensely powerful consumer level GPUs worth $5k total.

@IanCutress Facts. Before the first RTX GPUs released in 2018, Nvidia demoed ray tracing on the Quadro RTX 6000. It didn't mean consumers needed a $6300 GPU to eventually use RT. But people think you'll need two 5090 cards to use DLSS 5. 😂

"Hey, here's a demo that's still early and unoptimized, coming out end of year hopefully. We're still getting it to work and this is an early alpha." "We shoved it onto two separate GPUs to ensure the base game runs fine and the DLSS works well enough for the demo." "We have 5090s, so why not run it on those. We could have used two GT730s for the lolz, and you would have asked why, but we had 5090s on the desk." Everyone starts screaming 🎶OMG 🎶 🎶 IT REQUIRES 🎶 🎶 TWO 5090s!!1!🎶 🎶 WONT SOMEONE PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN 🎶 I really can't fathom the dumb. You know console games are made on dev kits that are vastly faster than the consoles they run on. It's well documented, especially in early cycle design. To anyone that claims I'm pro NVIDIA or I'm not taking people's complaints seriously, go look at my previous NVIDIA tweets. I don't get passes for events. I find issues with their messaging all the time. This is just one where seemingly most of the TechTube space couldn't be bothered to apply the most basic critical thinking, or didn't ask a basic question or two. Instead, let's jump straight to drama and have it as the cornerstone of the outrage and content. Because clicks, I guess. There are a thousand other things to mention about DLSS5. I gave them a ton of feedback when I spoke to the engineers at the demo in person (most of the time it looks like a repositioning of the light source more than anything else, it was shown on games that aren't that high in graphics fidelity (I'm actually disappointed in modern AAA if this is what we have), half the time it looks simply like the additional tesselation we saw in DX11, and it can ignore a number of doubly-relected shadows). Here's the kicker though. NVIDIA has thousands of employees working on its gaming portfolio. I've seen so many people complain 'why did they work on this when they could have worked on other stuff'. They ARE working on other stuff. You might be able to only think about one feature at a time (make sure you remember to breathe), but these things are all developed in parallel with other features. If anyone has enough money to have teams invested in researching and developing a bucket load of features, it's NVIDIA. Also, you can turn the feature off. Imagine complaining about a TV channel you don't watch, just because it's on the guide and the cable service promoted it and needed two 8K TVs to do so because it was early 3D. I'll say it again. I really can't fathom the dumb. Or rather I can, and I'm just amazingly disappointed on this hardware critique. I'll get backlash from other media just for this post, sure, that much is certain (and thanks for obliging, much appreciated). But perhaps I should just bring @ctnzr on the show for an interview later in the year. He's a really cool dude anyway.

@IanCutress And yet NVIDIA themselves showed it required two 5090's and could only generate slop AI filter garbage.

@IanCutress It was Nvidia's choice to show this demo in this state at this time running on that hardware, with all the inherent optics of that choice. The public/media/whoever else are more than justified in picking it apart from every angle. It really is that simple.

@JohnLeePettim13 All the stuff about collecting it taking energy is irrelevant. The point would be that all the collection is done with renewable sources. The explosive bit, though, yeah, that's a concern.

Hydrogen is the stupidest, most ridiculous, and most impossible energy alternative. It takes 5 to 10 times more energy than it returns. This has been known since 2004, yet hydrogen refuses to die. It is far from renewable because it contains no energy at all—energy must be forced into it like a battery—and you lose even more when converting it back to electricity. It has the worst energy return of any alternative: far more energy goes in than you ever get back. Consider the process: you first split hydrogen from natural gas or use far more energy to electrolyze it from water, then compress or liquefy it, build extremely expensive and short-lived steel containers and pipelines (since hydrogen embrittles them), and finally deliver it to virtually non-existent hydrogen vehicles. Fuel cell technology remains far from commercial. It is also highly explosive. Hydrogen requires 12 times less energy to ignite than gasoline vapor, so the smallest spark or heat source can turn it into a bomb.

“Toxic casuals” in the gaming community who not only reject, but advocate for the removal of skill gaps in games have done more damage to gaming than any “try hard” ever has. Gaming casually is perfectly fine, but losing to those who take the time to learn, embrace, and master the mechanics of a game should be expected and accepted if you do play more casually.

@tactigamer Two things. 1. This will lack consistency. A true render is fixed. This will be constantly slightly made up on the fly. 2. It's just different. In the same way that an AI filter on a real life picture fundamentally changes its impact.

Wild to me that people are hating on this. This is the real time "Photorealism" in video games that gamers have been attempting to capture through mods for over a decade.

@ChrisDebate @SurferRBLX @Kingbingo_ @Isaac2003_v2 Not by a certain logic. Conceptually (and physicall, in many instances), it's just the ground. It's the level you walked in on. It's 0. Building up a floor adds one floor (floor 1). Digging down a floor takes you down one floor (floor -1).

@hobocouture0 @SurferRBLX @Kingbingo_ @Isaac2003_v2 Ah, but lower levels are usable floors, so why not start counting from the first usable floor? As I say, I'm not really wedded to the idea - can see both arguments - but in terms of logic, ground/0 floor does hold up perfectly well.

@Ed_Chester @SurferRBLX @Kingbingo_ @Isaac2003_v2 The ground is not a box. This is not analogous. You can use the first box as a box; you can’t use the floor as one. In a building, the first/ground/whatever floor is still a floor that can be used.

@SurferRBLX @Kingbingo_ @Isaac2003_v2 No, the ground is the 0th box. You've literally proven the point. The 0th floor is the ground. The 0th box is the ground. The first box is the first box. The first floor is the first floor. (Though I can see the argue for both interpretations overall)
