@Brick_Suit @kevinxu So now we're saying the A students are going to be electricians/plumbers The B-students will be apprentices for a few years until they realize the field is too overcrowded What happens to the C/D/F students (current plumbers/electricians) -- homeless?

Andrew Yang reveals which jobs will NOT be replaced by AI “44% of jobs are repetitive, and those are the ones AI is going to decimate. Non repetitive manual jobs, like cleaning hotel rooms, will last much longer because robots struggle with unpredictable tasks and environments. The same goes for jobs like HVAC repair and electricians, especially with older buildings” “Non repetitive cognitive work will not be replaced, which is what you and I do on a good day. This includes entrepreneurial and creative work, as well as directing AI. If you look at a Microsoft report that came out a few months ago, the most resilient roles are things like sledgehammer operators or people who install flooring, very gritty, physical work”

I cannot express HOW bad it is when the stock market falls and interest rates spike at the same time. It's a double whammy to housing, that is already on the edge of the cliff.

@stelzner_n1150 It's been so long since a buyers market that people forget what that means. Houses sit on the market longer, prices adjust slightly, and no more bidding wars... meaning buyers have more time to vet out the situation (inspection, appraisal, etc.) Going back to normal is good

@kenshii_ai Do you think this is all scripted? Microsoft wants out of their deal with OpenAI so they tell Sam to go deliberately void the contract by signing with AMZN MSFT sues, gets out of the contract, might get a few dollars back. Sam gets to go do what he wants Everybody wins

OpenAI is betraying its biggest investor yet again. After Microsoft sank 10 billion dollars into them for a 27 percent stake and Azure access, OpenAI just signed a 50 billion dollar deal with Amazon that clearly violates their partnership. OpenAI denies it of course but the facts scream otherwise. This is pure greed from a company that cannot be trusted. Microsoft should sue immediately and pull the plug on these backstabbers.

@gtinari The only thing it tells you is that they could sell the iphone for less than $600, but they choose not to Think about it, iphones don't have keyboards, touchpads, hinges, huge batteries, huge speakers, etc. Think about the cost they are charging to make something ultra thin

it’s insane to me how many people in the tech community can’t wrap their minds around the macbook neo. what is such an enigma about it? it’s a $600 laptop from apple made for people who do some typing, do some streaming, do some researching, and do some socializing.

@Nithya_Shrii 100%? And forever? Maybe they'll be the last to truly feel affected by it, but anyone working deep with AI and robots knows that it will impact every profession Surgeons started using robots in the 90's. People in the 70's thought that was impossible

Good friend was an electrician with his own business Can't currently find work, even working for somebody else, had to shut his shop down. 6 other electricians within 100 miles have gone out of business this year as well Tell me again how many we need?
Jason Shuman@JasonrShuman

The US needs 500,000 new electricians this decade. Apprenticeships take 5 years. Microsoft’s Brad Smith says it’s the #1 thing slowing data center expansion. The AI bottleneck isn’t chips. It’s the trades.

@burner38583 @WatcherontheWeb You do you. I pay for what the job deserves. Replacing a junction box, an apprentice is fine... it's like changing the oil on a car. Replacing my entire electrical box... I'll make sure the guy knows what he's doing (always ChatGPT to ask the right questions)

@FinEngineer77 @WatcherontheWeb I do just fine with my 175 minimum. You get what you pay for. And I may do a little cash, but I ain’t giving nobody a 20% discount for lying to the IRS.

@burner38583 @WatcherontheWeb Yep, I'll find the next $125 guy. They always exist Just like the guy that gives a 20% discount if I pay in cash If you hustle and are good at business and not just looking to pad your pockets, you'll do well out there. You'll have a line of customers waiting

@WatcherontheWeb A lot of people here saying the guy charging $125 will go out of business The average electrician in the US makes $30/hr Most electricians out there are trying to make 6-figures... that's the problem, not the $125 electrician

@WatcherontheWeb Called three electricians One wanted $230 just to come over and provide a quote Second said he charges by the hour, $200 quote +$150/hr The third came over, provided a quote and fixed the box for $125 in 30-minutes The first two guys are not going to do well in a bad economy

@Wiley1654484349 @WatcherontheWeb From my experience, the guys that show up in a 20-yr old van smelling like cigarettes are the ones who do the best quality job in the shortest time The guys who pull up in $100K F350s look you up on LinkedIn, find out how much you make, then give you an overpriced quote

@Anon_not_a_non @WatcherontheWeb To me, the consumer, none of that matters. There is always going to be a trustworthy (licensed) tradesman that will do the work cheaper than the rest of the crowd. If he wants low margins and risks going out of business, that's not my problem I'll always find the $125 guy

@FinEngineer77 @WatcherontheWeb Quite the opposite. Doing things at cost never ends well in business, hustling all day taking trash just to "stay busy". You build up runway while things are good, so you can be selective, when things go bad.
