@charlescwcooke @EsotericCD We are all so lucky that insane people like Elon have unfillable voids inside them that lead them to endlessly solve problems for humanity instead of relaxing and enjoying life

This is actually correct—just not for the reasons Vietor thinks. Musk had $180 million in cash after he sold PayPal, and it didn't make him happy. What made him happy was starting the other companies. His money isn't in some vault; it *is* those companies. x.com/TVietor08/stat…

Congrats to @elonmusk for becoming a trillionaire and being the final proof that money doesn't make you happy.

@JadeAtrophis I agree that non-sexual touch is important, but that’s not what making out is lol

@grlfrmboston @emilykmay This is just how male sexuality works. I love non-sexual touch/intimacy! But I can’t help that making out with my partner whom I love and find incredibly attractive turns me on. If we’re not gonna have sex, I’d rather show her physical affection in a way that doesn’t turn me on

there's a sex therapist who has a ritual of making out with her husband every night before bed, and so many of the comments on her posts are some version of "but what if he gets turned on and I don't want to have sex" and i need men to understand and prioritize non sexual touch.

@amalth3a__ @emilykmay I’m just expressing that it feels unpleasant! I think it’s important for men to understand women want/need this, and for women to understand that this can be unpleasant for men.

@HowlerOfMars @emilykmay so if you can control yourself perfectly fine then why would this be a problem?

@amalth3a__ @emilykmay No amount of therapy can make me not get turned on from making out, nor can it make getting turned on with no release less physically unpleasant. But I’m empathetic to my partner’s needs and am happy to do this for her! I just need to take care of myself so I can fall asleep.

@amalth3a__ @emilykmay This is a completely unconscious physical response that I have no control over. I can and do control how I behave in response to it. I recognize what’s going on in my brain and that logically it makes no sense to be angry, so I don’t act on it or pressure my partner in any way.

@xwanyex They think this because the only black people they interact with are other neurotic progressives who fully believe the only reason they haven’t been killed or assaulted by police yet is sheer luck.

There's a meme in progressive spaces that young black men have to be on their best behavior all the time, that they're always scared for their lives, that they must behave as if one wrong move could cost them their lives. To put it mildly, this is...not the experience of anybody who as every lived in a black neighborhood or gone to a black school. Literally nobody would characterize the average behavior of young black men in those spaces as, "meek and cautious."
i/o@avidseries

@razibkhan I had the great misfortune of spending some of my childhood living as a white person in a low-income black neighborhood, and what Whitlock is describing is accurate.

An interesting aspect of being racist is that you have to pretend - say - Russia is a better place than Japan, South Korea, Argentina or Brazil, Israel, the black islands, UAE, etc.

@xwanyex The only time they acknowledge male loneliness is to say that men are awful and deserve to be even more lonely

The only time they’ll acknowledge that men are disadvantaged is whenever they think it makes them look pathetic. So they’re happy to talk about how men are lonely, for example. They’ll never acknowledge that a man has been unfairly deprived of economic opportunity, but they will happily depict men as lonely losers, so long as it’s in kind of an abstract way for which nobody is held to account.

This Helen Lewis media tour behind her recent Atlantic article is instructive. Listening to her on NPR now and the hosts can’t conceal that they think the entire premise that straight white men could ever be in any way disadvantaged or mistreated is absurd on its face. They claim there is no data to support the view. Don’t you realize that all the presidents except one have been white men?

@StatisticUrban To the extent that I care about this meaningless issue, I think how much of a New Yorker you are is determined by how much of the accent you have

In theory, this makes my London friend’s 11 year old kid with a posh British accent, who goes to private prep school in Manhattan, a New Yorker. But not the 20 year old trans kid who moved from rural Nebraska seeking a more accepting life.
✺Malachi@problemochile

If you’re a transplant from anywhere in the middle of America you’re not a New Yorker but if you’re an immigrant and came to New York when you were in elementary school you 1000% a New Yorker hope this helps

Japanese cities can disappoint. Visitors stroll around hoping to be awe-struck by the dreamy spectacle of clip-clopping Geisha in their wooden geita, or barreling sumo wrestlers, or high-stockinged ninja girls (à la Kill Bill), and all against a Blade Runner backdrop, only to be confronted with mostly unremitting blandness. The constants are these: concrete, plastic, more concrete, more plastic, endless construction (one crappy shopping complex or mansion block replacing another), confusion, and noise. It can all seem dizzyingly homogenous. ✍️ Philip Patrick Article | spectator.com/article/the-da…

@north0fnorth A homeless man randomly punched me in the back of the head and gave me a concussion because I was with my sister and he thought I was abducting her. The police could not arrest him because he was not mentally well. Forgive me if I don’t want to be in spaces with people like that.

i’m convinced car dependency and suburban sprawl promoting anti-social attitudes like “being in a public place with strangers is scary and bad” majorly contributes to why so many people are extremely regressive, tribalist, and paranoid these days

I don’t understand people who like public transit. How can you possible enjoy being stuck in a moving vehicle with people you don’t know? Ew.

One of the biggest divides between right and left, separating those people who understand reality and American history from those who do not, is whether you think suburbanization and American beliefs about crime and disorder are fundamentally irrational fabrications promoted by confused and ignorant people, or if you think they are a rational response to actually existing conditions.
