I'm not going to waste time debating what Star Trek is or isn't "supposed" to be. That's a subjective black hole no one ever escapes. Instead, I'll just point out that Nu-Trek feels about as much like classic Trek (TOS through ENT) as being drawn and quartered feels like a deep tissue massage. It's the exact same issue that's ruined Disney Star Wars

Wow. I’m 65 and I watched the original Star Trek the night at debut on TV. I know what Star Trek is … this woke crap you are selling, is not it. Patrick Stewart, Rod Roddenberry & Chris Pine have ALL publicly stated this show is woke garbage…. AND it’s been CANCELLED. “Academy” not only ignored, but also took a BIG shit on the history, the lore, the actual original meaning and the soul & heart of the franchise. How? Here are 2 EXTREMELY clear examples: A “female half Klingon, half Jem’hadar, gay character” IS NOT POSSIBLE in ST lore. The Jem’hadar are a genetically “created” race with NO females. There are no Jem’hadar female chromosomes, so there CANNOT be ANY female jem’hadar. PLUS “she” is not “genetically addicted” to Ketracel-white… as ALL Jem’hadar are. A “female Charon” (half black/half white) character IS NOT POSSIBLE in ST lore. The Charonese WIPED THEMSELVES OUT in a suicidal race war. They are a self-extinct species “in the lore”. IF YOU actually knew or truly cared about Star Trek, you would know this… and you do, you just don’t give a fuck. Good riddance.

Stop, you are now embarrassing yourself. What is worse? How bad the show was (writing, acting and just general science) or the fact your name will be forever associated with it? SFA fails Roddenberry on every level as he described. It expressed no mature ideas or thoughtful philosophy, substituting shallow teen-drama tropes, group hugs, and repetitive “diversity is good” platforming for any real debate, moral complexity, or exploration of what it means to be human or alien. It showed no genuine “difference in life forms”, instead normalizing everything into a disgustingly human-centric mold where Klingons are just edgy gay skirt wearing goth kids, Vulcans are nerds with pointy ears, the staff are body positivity gay activists. Every cast member emotes like a 21st-century teenager, erasing cultural friction, perception of a future setting and turning the Academy into a sanitized high-school cafeteria rather than delighting in alien perspectives that challenge the human default. Finally, your version of “tolerance” is not the step beyond mere acceptance that Roddenberry meant by moving to special delight in differences, but enforced conformity that instantly brands any criticism, pushback, or cultural debate as bigotry. You mistake Hollywoods authoritarian groupthink and enforced silence for wisdom. Make a good show and the people will come. They “hated” yours and you are too obtuse to ask the hard question and look inward. Roddenberry’s vision was bold, messy, and unafraid of difference; Starfleet Academy is safe, sanitized, and terrified of it, failing the quote completely.

The funniest part of the Starfleet Academy discourse was this: modern shows never fail on their own merits. It's always trolls. Always review bombers. Never the show.

A STARSHIP DOES NOT NEED TO BE STREAMLINED AND SLIM!! Got into a little argument about starship design today with #RobertHyland. He is a sovereign, Defiant and NX class man. He thinks starships should be sleek and slim and long. I disagree. In fact, only recently (since #StarTrek First Contact) has starships slimmed down. I for one am a fan of TOS to TNG era starship fan, especially the TMP Refit Connie and the Constellation-Class.
