I was a PE teacher at an independent school on the outskirts of London. The school didn't have kitchens so pupils brought in packed lunches. The school was an international school with a number of Japanese kids. All the Japanese kids were slim and healthy looking with clear skin. Many other kids looked unhealthy, and had bad skin. One week we did canoeing on the Thames; at lunch when they opened their boxes I noticed the Japanese kids had rice, some fish, and vegetables, whilst the majority of the other kids had sandwiches, a packet of crisps, maybe a chocolate bar, and a soft drink - the difference was remarkable. I don't think I've ever seen an unhealthy looking Japanese individual or family in London. They bring their culture with them - they seem to have a forcefield around them that western food culture can't penetrate.
