I agree 💯. N im a parent not a teacher. Teachers must send the kids to the office for the cellphone situation as well as tell their unions that they arent partaking. Teachers r going 2 have the brunt of this legislation n not the govs or admins.

Schools are not underfunded but rather the opposite. Schools are more likely to miss use the funding they have and spend the money on woke ideology and I do not want teachers in my community teaching our children that have to have pronouns with their names to get through their own messed up lives.

All I'm saying is, I wish that people (politicians, the media, the general public) were as worked up about underfunded schools, classes being cancelled due to lack of a teacher, school repairs, mental health supports, and clean air, as they are about cellphones. 🤷🏿‍♂️ #OntEd

@John16180339887 @MsGaudun @Teachers__Unite I do. All communication that is personal/my own kid related is a separate email. I am in regular contact with SERT, principal, I know the SO for my kids’ school, I contact heads of inclusivity and inclusion, psych, vision.

@IWasInTheMiddle @MsGaudun @Teachers__Unite Always use a separate email. Just do the following. Email the principal and never mention that you are a teacher in your emails (even if they do). Also address your role as a parent repeatedly. And quickly escalate everything to the SO within the first few weeks of school.

Changing teaching assignments has always been difficult. However, I've been teaching long enough to remember when the #tvdsb used to provide resources. Now, switching is a very arduous and thankless job as the employer provides nothing. #onted #edchat

@paugellodk @Teachers__Unite I use my phone for marking, tracking, attendance, student feed back, timing, communicating with other teachers, requesting support… at any time a student can ask to see what I am doing. It is an important teaching tool. How would you know what teachers are doing on their phone?

@Teachers__Unite If the students are asked to not be on their phones so should staff, I see staff on their phones constantly some even doing side business on school time. Staff can’t ask students to put away their phone if they are on theirs. Also this will never be fully enforced.

@John16180339887 @MsGaudun @Teachers__Unite This is such a good question. Hubby is also a teacher in the same board so it puts us in a difficult position. I have sent in requests with citations from freedom of information to no avail. My life is busy and tbh I kind of gave up.

@MsGaudun @John16180339887 @Teachers__Unite As a spec ed teacher and mother to two kids who need spec ed support, the MoE and boards are NOT fulfilling their requirements. I requested breakdowns of spec ed spending multiple times last year they refused to give me anything but a generic breakdown.

@Teachers__Unite My kids’ school starts at 8am. Kids get on bus at 7:10. Gets me to work with lots of time as my school starts at 9. It worked for us but I realize it isn’t for everyone.

@jennyleeshee This has been the norm in my school board for years. I used to hate it. Now I figure, seeing as I’m not getting paid to set it up I guess I won’t bother. Years of demonizing and vilification from MOE, parents and even board, sadly, makes me fine with this. I used to love set up.

@Teachers__Unite Students hear the way teachers are often treated by parents. They see the demonization and vilification of teachers by the ministry of education. They see the lack of resources. Why would they want that job?

@Teachers__Unite Students know how teachers are treated. They were in buildings where students could injure, destroy, insult, etc… and the watched while there were no consequences or worse, students returned to class with a prize. Why would they choose to take on that job?

@Chris_AutismDad @CityCynthia Realized this reads as I am autistic. There are days I wonder, but. It diagnosed. My brother is and my parents did respite for other children with autism. Over the years I worked in ASD camps and respite homes to put myself through uni.

@Chris_AutismDad @CityCynthia Please know how much I love it! Definitely not easy, but there are no easy parts of teaching. I’m ND as well, so sometimes my understanding is different from other teachers. I grew with autism being my norm and it is where I am most comfortable.

@Chris_AutismDad @CityCynthia Definitely not a sensory room. May have been a quiet room designed for his naps. If he seizes regularly the padding may have been to prevent injury. But his naps should have been supervised!

@CityCynthia Speaking as a parent who has seen a number of TDSB's and other school districts sensory rooms....that is no sensory room. That is a seclusion room. That is terrifying. I would never let my son go in that room.

@JJ_Kors @CityCynthia Do we have many MANY other students who need support and never receive it, sadly yes. But we just never leave our vulnerable students because many aspirate or have seizures. I cannot imagine a spec ed program where this is allowed but top down needs to be investigated!

@JJ_Kors @CityCynthia This is scary to hear. I work in spec ed at my school. We have a board wide policy that no child can be left alone. We have extremely high needs children who sleep for parts of the day. They are never alone.
