Howie Roseman: "If we went into the draft and filled every hole, we probably didn't have a good draft." ...This is a comment Roseman makes each year, and it's served him well. His point is that when you're pushing your needs in the draft, you're deviating from the process.

@ta11131262 @DhruvKoul Well they must be damn unlucky then that over 5 years of poles drafts there has never been a good pass rusher available other than twice in the 5th round.

@Irocdess @DhruvKoul That’s assuming a good pass rusher was there to take, isn’t it? 🤡🤡🤡🤦🏻‍♂️

They took 2 DTs back to back a few years ago at a time of need. One isn't on the roster and the other won't be extended. Getting a good player is what matters. Address needs in FA. Build your backbone in the draft. Of course I wish the board fell differently in R2. But I would be more upset if they just took a guy to say they did. Ideally, in future years, the Bears are accumulating comp picks that they can wield in trades up when needed. Right now, they can't.
Fire@Firebreathur

@DhruvKoul "You can't draft for need" This thought process is why this defensive line is and has been an abomination for years.

@RealMicahK @jacobinfante24 No I’m aware he’s there I don’t think his talent evaluation is in the same class as Johnson’s. DA’s defense is looking for unicorns. Either elite penetrating tackles or huge pass rushing DE. Not a lot of Tommy Harris or Julius peppers types around

Ryan Poles has only traded up in the first three rounds of the NFL Draft once. He moved up for Tyrique Stevenson in 2023. Really feel like the #Bears should've traded up to land Gabe Jacas. Once T.J. Parker and Zion Young were off the board, they should've secured an EDGE, IMO.

@bl9645 @adamjahns I think poles and Allen are a bad pairing they have some similar flaws in their evaluation.

Ryan Poles after the Bears passed on positional needs for the best player available: "We followed the board. To go into a draft and just start picking at your needs, hopping around the board ... that doesn’t play out very well over the long haul."

It's not a problem with tonight. I don't have a problem with him passing on a lot of these names. It's the lead up and track record of Poles when adding DL. Bears wouldn't feel desperate to land an edge if he invested in actual production and didn't rely solely on traits

Ryan Poles on the DL said it wasn’t 100% necessary to add to that group. With Dayo and Shemar Turner returning from injury and he likes Booker’s development he thinks things will look better next season as is.

@RealMicahK @jacobinfante24 And I trust Ben to draft offense so they should have used FA and trades to find pass rushers because poles can’t identify one to save his life

@RChorzempa @jacobinfante24 Doesn’t likely matter much. You could find a safety tomorrow that could play but he went there round 1. Could find a linebacker but that’s where he spent his free agent money. You don’t find nfl ready pass rushers on day three very often

@jacobinfante24 13 defensive players went between 57 (1st pick tonight) and 89 (3rd pick tonight) 4 more after to end the round. 4 were safeties so that would not have made sense. 13 total defensive players (minus safeties) between 57-100. Bears will focus more on defense tomorrow.

Ryan Poles says it was the way the board fell as to why they didn't land help on the DL. Said they figured there would be a hotspot at the start of the second for DL. Mentioned they weren't really comfortable with how much it would cost to move up. #Bears

@ChiC1ty @Johnathan_Wood1 I agree that Ben agreed to work with him. If the defense isn’t better this year and Ben is picking the offense he should be fired for someone who can build a defense and Ben should have huge say in who that is

@Irocdess @Johnathan_Wood1 I stand by my point. He came here, has the most power football wise and works with him and he got an extension AFTER Ben got hired. So if you think he didn’t okay that, you’re just misinformed.

This isn't about "they need defense this year." The draft is mostly about the future. Your defense will continue sucking if you continue to not invest in it. Failing to do so in 2026 draft hurts more in 2027-29 seasons than it does 2026.
Johnathan Wood@Johnathan_Wood1

Day 1-2 draft investment last 3 years: Offense: 1st, 1st, 1st, 1st, 2nd, 2nd, 2nd, 3rd, 3rd Defense: 1st, 2nd If you're wondering why the defense sucks, look no further.

@DhruvKoul I think the issue was the secondary and linebackers weren’t the biggest problem last. It was pass rush and they ignored that. That got a lot of turnovers from the back end last year with a bad pass rush.

Do you guys think the defense is unaddressed? They've turned over the S and LB room entirely, and added immense speed and coverage capabilities. They also have a lot of guys they were counting on returning from injury. I saw so many people asking to draft Dani Dennis-Sutton when he is mid as hell. Just because he's a name you know doesn't mean he's good.
Kobe Jordan🇺🇸@JordanB170

Don't complain about the defense this year when they start to give up a shit ton of points and yards.

Not just in the draft but free agency too. Some big contracts will come of the books next year.
Kirk Mayrose@JuiceThoughts1

@ErikLambert1 It feels as if we are positioning to replace older, more expensive offensive players for Caleb’s eventual contract. Now that the process is almost complete, I’d imagine we have defensive heavy drafts in 2027 & 2028
