@RewildScotland It encourages new growth of heather which the grouse feed off. Heather can also grow too tall which heavy snow can snap resulting in the plant dying leaving grass therefore no habitat for grouse.

Well it’s not for hunting or cultural tradition it is solely for a relatively new sport, a blood sport, called driven grouse shooting.

@RewildScotland 👍 Was recently driving from Inchnadamph to Lairg and barely saw a tree. Heard there was attempt to plant in that area a generation ago but the trees didn’t take- all died after 30 odd years…..

Hiked for for 5hrs and didn’t see a single native tree after leaving the car park. Grazed and burnt to death. This seen would naturally have trees, moor and bog. 4% woodland in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿#RewildScotland
