Everything must be done to prevent a further escalation in the Middle East. I call on all sides to strictly uphold their obligations under international law, including the @UN Charter, protect civilians & ensure nuclear safety. Let’s act responsibly & together to pull the region & our world back from the brink.

I condemn the military escalation in the Middle East today. The strikes by the US & Israel against Iran & the subsequent attacks by Iran undermine international security. These actions carry the risk of igniting a chain of events that no one can control in the most volatile region of the world. Lasting peace can only be achieved through peaceful means, including genuine dialogue and negotiations. The @UN Charter provides the foundation for the maintenance of international peace & security.

I condemn today’s military escalation in the Middle East. The use of force by the United States & Israel against Iran, and the subsequent retaliation by Iran across the region, undermine international peace & security.   All Member States must respect their obligations under international law, including the Charter of the @UN. The Charter clearly prohibits “the threat of the use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state, or in any other manner inconsistent with the Purposes of the United Nations.”   I call for an immediate cessation of hostilities & de-escalation. Failing to do so risks a wider regional conflict with grave consequences for civilians & regional stability. I strongly encourage all parties to return immediately to the negotiating table.   I reiterate that there is no viable alternative to the peaceful settlement of international disputes, in full accordance with international law, including the UN Charter. The Charter provides the foundation for the maintenance of international peace and security.

As a nation, we must do the right thing when faced with serious legal and ethical issues. It is now clear that former President @DrWaheedH had not only a close association with the paedophile Epstein, but also offered him a range of business opportunities in the Maldives, in addition to seeking various forms of financial assistance from him. These actions constitute clear violations of Article 119 of the Constitution, as well as criminal offences relating to the solicitation of benefits through abuse of official position. In similar circumstances, the UK Government initiated a criminal investigation against Lord Mandelson, removed him from the Privy Council, and withdrew his title. I firmly believe President Waheed has committed criminal offences and misconduct in office. Convicted paedophile Epstein died by suicide on 9 Aug 2019. A month earlier, he sent an email to himself containing a list for former Trump White House chief strategist Steve Bannon. One of the names on that list is @DrWaheedH. This proves just how close Epstein was to @JSWaheed’s father.
