@mattjalexander I didn't say it was a cause, just that the time would be better spent on that than say endless classes on procurement. And funding speaks to Army priorities, which are way out of alignment.

Certs are a scam and they keep people out of the workforce. This has great potential if they can also democratize who can take the assessments and speed up the hiring process.

AI should almost never "decide", so this article's framing is all wrong. Sometimes there will be such a narrow range of options so as to naturally guide a COA, but human judgment will still be critical to successfully using AI in almost every field.

@ArmyMudPuppy Just because COMPO 3 consistently has terrible leadership doesn't mean it isn't full of really good Soldiers. Also, Big Army wants COMPO 3 the way it is; under-trained, under-funded, and led by folks who won't challenge the status quo.

This is an overly reductive way to view things. Sure, cheap drones are an issue. However, we still hold a ton of cards and if we can scale likewise, drones become another question of how to apply mass. It's actually more a sign of a return of large-scale warfare than evidence of a change in power dynamics.

I’m no military expert but the demonstrated ability of middle powers to produce incredibly cheap precision drones capable of destroying billions of dollars of U.S. military equipment really does suggest the era of American global dominance is over.

@DriverHawk @ebrockwayink We couldn't do it the way we did then because things have changed a lot, even though I would argue it wasn't as bad as you say, we should probably be having a more serious conversation about what a modern draft would look like.

Our retention isn’t that great, but I’d still prefer working extra days and longer hours with an all-volunteer force vs being flush with a drafted, disinterested and disgruntled crew - any day.
