@llewelyn20 So I don’t think that’s right. We aren’t seeing anywhere near 49% “needs attention” - and I’ve made some comments on what analysis might look at next. On the second point, I’d point at Martyn acknowledging explicitly that it is harder to teach/lead in disadvantaged communities.

I think @Rory_Gribbell you are mistaking causation for correlation. Whilst low expectations will cause lower than average outcomes, not all those schools with lower than average outcomes have low expectations. Maybe it would help if you recognised this distinction. Happy to chat.

@JtuckerJames @BarryNSmith79 @Strickomaster What do you mean by high notes? Convincing kids to take it? It involves practising to become decent and has long term rewards rather than a quick high of a video game.

@JtuckerJames @BarryNSmith79 @Strickomaster As a teacher of French, German and Spanish, Spanish isn't easier. It's phonetic which is great in the beginning. Every language has its own challenges for speakers of English. Duolingo does not a competent speaker make.

@savoy_girl @hagan_carmel @Strickomaster My feeder primaries do different languages. Even with greater clarity, I can't offer them to all my students as staffing doesn't allow for this.

@hagan_carmel @Strickomaster Maybe you should take the time to look at the detail. Languages especially are to be given far greater clarity of expectation for KS2 learning, to address the fact that for many pupils KS2 MFL does not flow into KS3 study.

Re English degrees - as a student Katherine Rundell read Donne's most difficult poem. It gave her an idea for a children's book. Yesterday Disney announced a monster deal for that book. So that English degree will soon create and sustain thousands of highly skilled UK jobs.

My rip off degree of Old and Middle English led directly to #HorridHenry and millions of books sold, and kids becoming readers. Oh, and I was on one of those visas Reform vows to revoke
