Our assisted dying protocol article is out! It describes the careful design and methods of our research. It’s free to access so please RT. Thanks to the team and advisors for their important input. Hopefully it'll inform others doing similar research. bmjopen.bmj.com/content/14/10/…

Returning for a short minute to say my Health Research Council team are hosting an assisted dying conference wgtn.ac.nz/assisted-dying… It's focusing on Aotearoa NZ but if your work has relevance, I encourage you to submit an abstract (I need to update the website to reflect this!)

New article on participating in assisted dying: showing intended participation before it was available did not always lead to actual participation 1 year later. Find out the reasons why: ⁦@HealthLawQUT⁩ ⁦@BenPWhite⁩ ⁦⁦@WillmottLindy#abstract" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…

I was about to have a milestone number of citations but then a chunk disappeared from google scholar. Has anyone else noticed this? #AcademicChatter

@jamesdownar I genuinely find this very confusing. Are you saying there is no blurred line between the two? Is there a literature on the difference between DTD and WTHD? The Leadbeater bill as written does not require any assessment that teases out the difference between these two things.

This audit is helpful in terms of understanding clinical responses to a wish for hastened death in settings where assisted dying / suicide is legal. But it’s an audit. Of 41 people. Where is the research evidence to guide this highly complex area of practice?
Leeroy William@drleeroyw

@kesleeman @AllanOHouse The issue highlights the ambiguity of when someone is asking for VAD, or just making a WTHD statement. The law makes people want to follow the legal tick box, neglecting standard clinical practice.

1/ Canada's 5th #MAID report came out last week. More information (82 pages!), less fanfare, likely due to people being better at interpreting observational data. Here's a 🧵 with some key findings canada.ca/en/health-cana…
