There is a comms strategist behind all this madness. They convinced themselves (and their boss) that building an image of a lunatic caricature would resonate with Ugandans at this moment. That creating fear and projecting invincibility is what was required for this moment. That winning hearts and minds by being a benevolent dictator belonged to the father’s generation and that what Uganda needed now was a deranged nut with sycophant followers. That public opinion no longer mattered since it could be shaped, spinned and managed through an X account where followers are acquired by routine dishing out of money! There are real communication ‘experts’ behind this madness that study extreme right digital campaigns and think they can transplant the whole MAGA strategy to Uganda with similar results. Simply put that strategy is: Be brutal to your opponents. Attack your detractors, call them names, dig up dirt on them and shove it down their throat until they shut up. Too bad we have to live now and be the guinea pigs of this crude experiment. 🙄

In politics, genuine friendships are rare, especially once someone assumes power.
