@Theo_tje @YIMBYLAND I’m from Missouri - the Show Me State. Show me an example where adding more units to markets with thousands of vacancies has brought housing costs down without some type of subsidy.

@Jwheath3 @YIMBYLAND There you go you are finally understanding. The “market rate”. The market rate is equal to the point where supply meets demand.

“You don't build, we're not gonna fund, Period” Newsom is done with these NIMBY local governments refusing to build housing and asking for a handout when (surprise, surprise) there are more homeless people. Build housing, or be ready to deal with the consequences like adults.
Governor Newsom Press Office@GovPressOffice

If cities and counties refuse to build housing, we're not going to fund them. The state has already delivered them $28+ billion to address homelessness and build. Build. Now. Enough!

@Theo_tje @YIMBYLAND It is flat out disingenuous to claim the affordable housing problem is solvable by supply and demand. There has been nearly 1 million vacant units in CA for years and the cost STILL hasn’t come down. How much more supply is needed champ?

Los Angeles should fully implement SB79 and let market forces do their job. For decades, politics has restricted housing and slowed growth—creating the shortage we see today. Supply and demand works. As we allow more housing, prices come down and we’ll finally see more family-sized units like 3–4 bedroom apartments—something the city desperately needs. That opens the door for more people to afford living here and eventually own homes. Thank you Gavin Newsom for pushing this forward. Any council members standing in the way should be recognized for delaying much-needed housing.

@YIMBYLAND Unfortunately the math still doesn’t work - there are hundreds of thousands more vacant housing units than houseless people in CA. We need smarter & efficient ways to create more AFFORDABLE housing & services to care for our neighbors who need help. Not just more housing.

@Dodgers The Dodgers last season didn't deserve to win the World Series, and they don't deserve to raise their Championship banner, the Jays were suppose to be the ones that raised their championship banner over LA

@dodgernate It’s a looong season that hasn’t even started yet! Pin this post and let’s follow up on this topic next August - Sept and see how things have progressed. It’s very hard to achieve consistency in baseball, and I think it requires lots of reps. Give him time to get his reps in!

19 years ago, a high school basketball coach put his team manager into a game for the final four minutes. The kid had never played a single minute of competitive basketball in his life. He scored 20 points. Jason McElwain was diagnosed with severe autism at age two. He didn’t speak until he was five. He couldn’t chew solid food until he was six. He wore a nappy for most of his early childhood. As a baby, he was rigid, wouldn’t make eye contact, and hid in corners away from other children. He tried out for his school basketball team every year and got cut every time. Too small. Too slight. Barely 5’6 and about 54 kilograms. But he loved the game so much that his mum called the school and asked if there was any way he could be involved. The coach created a team manager role for him. For three years, McElwain showed up to every practice and every game. He wore a shirt and tie on match days. He ran drills, handed out water, kept stats, and cheered every basket like he’d scored it himself. On 15 February 2006, the last home game of his final school year, the coach let him suit up in a proper jersey and sit on the bench. With four minutes left and a comfortable lead, the coach sent him in. His first shot missed. His second missed. Then something shifted. He hit a three-pointer. Then another. Then another. His teammates stopped shooting entirely and just kept passing him the ball. He hit six three-pointers and a two-pointer. 20 points in four minutes. The highest scorer in the game. When the final buzzer went, the entire crowd rushed the court and lifted him onto their shoulders. His mum tapped the coach on the shoulder, in tears. “This is the nicest gift you could have ever given my son.” McElwain won the ESPY Award for Best Moment in Sports that year, beating out some of the biggest names in professional sport. He’s 36 now. He works at a local supermarket, coaches basketball, has run 17 marathons including five Boston Marathons, and travels the country speaking about never giving up. When asked about that night, his coach still gets emotional. “For him to come in and seize the moment like he did was certainly more than I ever expected. I was an emotional wreck.”

@SloHoopsFan We “older” Laker fans remember when Bro Tanter started announcing home games in the Fabulous Forum back in the early 80s - when he was a DJ on KUTE-102 FM! **TOO MANY STEPS** He is a legend and part of Laker nation as much as Chick, Riles and Showtime…we want LT!

The Reverend Jesse Jackson's funeral was full of political speeches, despite his son's wishes that politics be left at the door. Barack Obama was the main political firestarter, equating MAGA to "bullies" and threats to Democracy.

@Padres_Burner69 It’s a long 162 games my friend - might be a wee bit early to be dancing on someone’s grave. To be a champion, you have to be willing to go thru the failure and the loss to perfect your craft and your mindset for success…

During Season 3 of The Wire , Robert Wisdom (Bunny Colvin) and Andre Royo (Bubbles) gathered the black actors together for this amazing picture. “We were just shooting the breeze one day and just marveling at the full array of talent that was coming together. This was the third year, and we came up with the idea to document this moment. At that point in television history, it hadn’t happened, and we figured it would probably be a long time before it happened again.” -Robert Wisdom (from the book #AllthePiecesMatter ) #BlackHistoryMonth

One of the single most powerful scenes I’ve ever seen in a show or movie. For all the quick-witted, millisecond comebacks Omar had up his sleeve throughout The Wire, it’s in this moment where Bunk leaves him speechless. You can’t get sarcastic with the truth. What a show, man.

It takes no courage to be a Dodgers fan. It’s like rooting for the sun to come in the morning and then opening champagne when it does. Being a Rockies fan is different. I am Brave. I am Strong. I am Daring. I am an idiot.
