@OakTreeStatus I will say as my only semi-defense of the Rockies here: the fact that simply because the then 29-year old Arenado was getting paid what a superstar 3B should get paid that his trade value was that meager is ridiculous. Money owed shouldn’t have impacted his trade value that much

Reminder:
The big issue here for the Rockies wasn't necessarily trading Arenado. It was *extending* Arenado and then trading him 2 years into the contract, effectively diminishing his value to the point where the Rockies got little-to-nothing back AND had to kick in $50 million.

@Julio_Econ Depends on how you look at it, I guess. From Arenado's POV, Bridich had made a commitment to try and build a World Series contender. Then the Rockies did nothing.

@OakTreeStatus Unpopular opinion: that was at least 75% on Arenado. He hated Colorado and never should have signed the extension.
Melo's exit - hated by everyone in Denver - was handled 1000x better. Told team he wanted out, and was traded for value.
