@LeftieStats @Cory_Bants So if we have no army at all, and they just use their allies to resupply, what’s stopping them from just landing in Hastings. Or the Russians?

@Cory_Bants Any extended war of conquest requires the same thing it has required for thousands of years: the supply line. That's why Caesar, Napoleon and Hitler all secured France and the surrounding areas BEFORE launching an invasion of Britain. And even still, NONE of them succeeded!

@Cory_Bants There is simply no practical way for any nation to launch a ground invasion of Britain. Geography and physics make it a complete non-starter. Both Hitler and Napoleon conquered the whole of Western Europe and **still** could not break the British defense even slightly.

@AliArthPainter On my first day using a walking stick a guy with a dog walked right up to me, shoved his dog into the path of my walking stick, then screamed at me for "hitting his dog". Ableists are wild

Got glared at by a dog owner because I raised my stick to stop a dog approaching me. I have as much right to be in public as your dog (which should be on the lead and respect others' boundaries). I'm tired of irresponsible dog owners trying to drive autistic people indoors.

@tombruhcks @LeftieStats She predicted a Corbyn defeat incorrectly and that caused campaigners to rush to Islington North where it wasn’t particularly close as opposed to say, pushing Leanne Mohamad’s campaign. The results were whack because a lot of people didn’t realise Corbyn wasn’t the Lab candidate

There's something really odd about the fact that the biggest-ever by-election in Britain's history is happening in 20 days, and yet only one poll has been conducted (before the election was called) and we still haven't seen the details of this poll or what questions were asked.

@MaxCryptic5 @LeftieStats Oh I see. My bad. Still, I don’t really see how it reaches the heights of the most significant in British history, but obviously very important and up in the air

@AllyFogg That's true. The anti-reform vote really might coalesce around the Count. (I am not a neutral judge, because I found Al Murray's intervention in Thanet in 2015 incredibly annoying and stupid.)

In 2015 another comedian went up against Farage in an election and it wasn't exactly a triumph. I wonder what voters in Clacton will make of it this time.

None of this means anything, and none of it is meaningfully different to Starmer. If you fall for this "rhetoric", you're a gullible idiot who doesn't actually care about Palestinian liberation - you just want a PM who will make soothing speeches while murdering kids
Pippa Crerar@PippaCrerar

EXCL: Andy Burnham has apologised for Labour’s initial response to Israel’s military action in Gaza, saying that the party “didn’t get it right” and needs to “do better” under his leadership, as he signals a significant shift in the UK’s approach to the Middle East. The PM-in-waiting told me he would put more pressure on the Israeli government, including through further sanctions on individuals and entities, but also potentially by banning trade in goods with illegal settlements. As well as pushing for substantive change on the ground, Burnham’s intervention starts to address concerns among voters on Labour’s progressive flank, many of whom have abandoned the party over its position on Israel and Palestine. “I know many people feel that at the start of Israel’s military action in Gaza my party didn’t get it right and I am sorry about that. The response has too often not been good enough. We need to do better,” he said. “We’ve got to do more to put pressure on the Israeli government… Yes, we have taken some important steps… But let’s be honest, the UK was too slow to call for a ceasefire. And we must now do more to strengthen our approach.”
