Pain on the outside of your shoulder is also one of the most common problems I see in my practice.
Lifters get it. Swimmers get it. Pickleball players get it. People who haven't lifted their arm overhead in years get it.
For decades, we called it impingement and blamed a bone spur. That led to many unnecessary bone removal surgeries. We were treating the wrong thing.

A bone spur was blamed for causing lateral shoulder pain for decades. Remarkably, it still is in small pockets... Despite no evidence. It’s strange to me that we still blame it. Docs and such accept and know that we get tendinopathy throughout our body and bone spurs are never mentioned.
Yet, tendon pain in the shoulder was blamed on a bone spur? Cmon.

OK, now I’m going to have to speak up. Assuming the below is accurate @HHSGov & @NIH could have used that 29M USD to fund approximately 20 full five-year NIH grants to laboratories to do basic research. (Including overhead costs). This is egregious. WTF.

The US Government gave the New York Times tens of millions of dollars over just the past 5 years despite paying relatively little money to the NYT in the years preceding 2021. For instance, in August 2024, the US government awarded $4.1 million to the NYT. The bulk of the funds came from the US Department of Health and Human Services at $26.90m, followed by the National Science Foundation at $19.15m
