MYTH: “Treaties block Independence. Treaties 6, 7, and 8 predate Alberta and can't just disappear.” FACT: Treaties do not block Independence - they are part of the negotiations and conversations around it. Treaties are with the Crown, and not with Ottawa (federal government) and they would remain in place. An independent Alberta would honour every existing treaty obligation and build direct nation to nation relationships. WHAT IF Independence is the path Indigenous Albertans have been waiting for? 46% of Alberta First Nations respondents said they would vote YES to Alberta Independence in a recent poll by a respected firm. This is the result of a poll by Mainstreet Research of 3000 Albertans from May 19-29, 2026. Indigenous communities do not all speak with one voice, just as all other Albertans do not speak with one voice. THAT is the point of a referendum vote: it is to get as close a value as possible to the opinions of ALL of Alberta’s citizens. @LetsTalkAlberta encourages conversations about this and many other important topics IN PERSON in as many communities as we can visit. We’ve covered as many rural venues as we can and will soon be concentrating on urban communities. We’ve been passing the hat at our town halls and we are very grateful to all who have helped to support us, and to those who have sent us etransfers. We have come to the point where we need to ramp up our communications via regional mailouts, cost effective billboard signage, and popup supplies. If you believe our efforts to engage with the public are worth supporting, and if you are able to donate to us to continue them, please email transfer to letstalkalberta@gmail.com or donate to the link at LetsTalkAlberta.com Because we are an educational society and not a third party advertiser we are not constrained by donation limits and we do not have to reveal who our donors are. Note that this means we do not advocate for any electoral outcome. We simply encourage discussion of the pertinent issues. LET’S TALK!
