@SteadyHabs @seanhhm I think we can reasonably agree their offensive 'peak' was better than what we have today but their "on-paper" roster and projected prospect pool was nowhere close to where we're at now. Marner -> Nylander -> Matthews was too much talent too fast. We've had time to cook.

@EastVan808 Rising cap. Hutson took a team friendly deal and was in some ways handcuffed by the established cap structure in Montreal with Suzuki/Caufield/Slafkovsky deals.

This isn't a dig at Buium, but 5 months ago Lane Hutson signed a an 8 x $8.85M extension after scoring 66 points in 82 games. Buium currently has 23 points. What is the justification for handing Buium that same contract? #Canucks

@SteadyHabs @seanhhm the Leafs have never had competent goaltending or defense if we're being honest. Hutson/Dobson/Guhle/Matheson is better than any combo of 4 defenceman the Leafs have had over the last decade. They also had 'the big 4' - we already have our big 4 + Hage/Zharovsky OTW.

Media is gonna try to frame this as “trying to do right for Reinbachers development” but HUGE red flag that ur only other consistent RD goes down and your top 5 pick in his D+3 isn’t the only thought for a call up. This is a playoff team now. They pick call ups based on winning

@CanadiensEh @Mack_Maring 100%. I also think no one truly knew how good Suzuki was going to be. Management fucked up putting him on the 4th line to start his career as well. Though, the narrative that the "settled" for Suzuki is way overdone and incorrect.

It’s clear you generally cant have Bergevin-related discourse without clear bias kicking in. Suzuki and Caufield are wins, dissecting it as something else is self-serving. Hugo hit the ground running and have done a hell of a job building this team up. Not Hard.
