@JFreshHockey McDavid vs Kucherov. Not saying McDavid shouldn't be thought of as potentially generational, but it feels like this is the marketing machine from when he was 16. Kucherov has beaten him multiple seasons in a row. Career stats are similar except for the cups.

everyone will have their own criteria for what generational means. it's not anything close to an exact science. to me, it's a very restrictive group that leaves out a lot of legends, and it's not close to an insult not to be on that list yet at age 19

@GabrielDufour4 @JFreshHockey If you're old enough to have watched him, you wouldn't hesitate to say he was generational. He always ALWAYS looked like he was way better than anyone else on the ice other than his linemate Mario. He was the only guy capable of being on the same stage as Jagr

@2997_mcdrai @JFreshHockey Makar is generational. He's ushered in a new style of play for defencemen, which has changed how offenses work. Offensively, he's better than Lidstrom was. Defensively, I would put Lidstrom ahead of him. But Lidstrom was the perfect Dman in his time.

@JFreshHockey Makar being generational is a little crazy. He’s upper echelon franchise above Keith and Hedman compared to the guys in the 2010’s but idk if I’d put him alongside Orr and Lidstrom

@JFreshHockey I think Ovechkin is generational. We've had goal scorers have more goals in a single season, but he's done it for 20+ years. If there were no lockouts, he'd be close to 1000 goals at this point. He's a different style of scorer, not "just a skilled guy" he is a bulldozer

if it's purely up to me, i say Ovechkin is generational. there's a reason Crosby/Ovechkin defined the sport for like 10 years, it was special

@GoSensGo2006 @NathanGraviteh The team is almost the exact same as this year. They effectively removed Laine, added 2 rookies and a couple of guys that were released by other teams. The team was already on it's upswing to anybody watching the games.

@NathanGraviteh Man, if people don't see that Buffalo, Montreal, Ottawa and Detroit have been building a strong base, and the top teams are still tough, he can't do simple math!

@ProducerDrew_ @domluszczyszyn Going from one GM who builds teams from a past era to another? St-Louis is not a model I'd want to copy if I was Toronto. They had a good guy and they let Shanahan fire him before he got kicked out.

When asked what went wrong for the #leafs this season, Keith Pelley says "we didn't see the train coming" in reference to the Montreal Canadiens and Buffalo Sabres.

@EricMacramalla They better not think about Jeff Gorton! But knowing how Toronto always messes up, they'll hire Tie Domi as the new GM of Good Vibes

Brad Treliving and Craig Berube are classic old-school picks - very traditional hires. A clear contrast to the Canadiens, who went way outside the box with Hughes and St. Louis. With Montreal’s success, other teams might start rethinking their approach to hiring.

Kirby Dach est sur la glace en équipement complet ce matin à Brossard et semble se rapprocher d’un retour au jeu. Qui préférez-vous à l’attaque entre Kirby Dach et Arber Xhekaj ? @DLCoulisses #GoHabsGo #Dach #NHL

@PatGuillet @DLCoulisses This season, Dach. Over the summer, if Xhekaj doesn't get traded, he needs to work on converting to a winger because he has no future on this team as a defenceman. He'd have more value long term as a 4th line journeyman winger to wear down the D in the corner.

@EricMacramalla @davidckerr1 STL fans wanted him gone just a few months ago. This is year one. We've seen Beck struggle at the NHL level so far, why do you say his struggle is a better option than Bolduc's? And Blais is delaying his eventual move to Switzerland let's be honest

Bolduc is really struggling tonight. Beck and Blais are better options at this point. Meanwhile Mailloux played 26+ minutes yesterday. Tracking to be a top 4 D. Mulligan?

@EricMacramalla I'd stick to this trade. A LOT of players struggle when coming here and figuring out what MSL is selling. STL style vs MTL is very different. Sign Bolduc another 2 years. He's got one of the best pure shots on the team. Also, I'm very happy for Mailloux, great for him.

@_JordanDecker I think F Xhekaj will need another year in Laval based on this year's performance. I don't think that many guys are legitimately knocking on the door from Laval. Reinbacher and Engstrom should come up next year. Other than that... Hage will be here in a couple of weeks.

Signing Texier to an extension and trading for Danault has created a log jam of forwards. We got Hage coming real soon, and guys in Laval looking to graduate to the big club next season(Beck, F.Xhekaj)… Body’s are gonna need to be moved out this summer, and not just Patty Laine.

@EricEngels Player dev is so different. It feels like Bergevin's style was "We put some VHS tapes on the room on hockey skills, it's up to the players to figure it out" Now we have real resources for these guys to work on stuff throughout the year, not just in summer

I think the kid deserves a ton of credit for sticking to the process when the pressure really ratcheted up on him. But boy, did he have help from Martin St. Louis, and especially Adam Nicholas. The investment the Canadiens made in player development is paying off HUGE.

Slafkovsky is on pace for 30 goals and 38 assists in his fourth NHL season. Felt when he was drafted that he’d turn into a consistent 35-35, two-way power forward. He’s turns 22 at the end of this month and appears poised to top that projection well before he hits his prime.

@sdpnsports I complain about this every year. Last year we were supposed to go to Vancouver (from Montreal) and when we priced air and hotels, we chose to go to the UK instead because it was cheaper than seeing our own country.
