This morning, Professor Conor Deasy, Clinical Lead for Major Trauma Audit officially launched the 𝗠𝗮𝗷𝗼𝗿 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝘂𝗺𝗮 𝗔𝘂𝗱𝗶𝘁 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟮. The report, covering 20 of Ireland’s 26 trauma-receiving hospitals, provides critical insights into the care of severely injured patients. Key findings include: - 61% of major trauma cases were from low falls (<2m), with 50% occurring in the home. - The average age of patients was 62 years. - 41% required surgery; most commonly limb surgery (57%). - 58% of patients were discharged directly home, while 7% required rehabilitation. - The crude in-hospital mortality rate was 6%. The data reflects the real-life impact of trauma and highlights opportunities for quality improvement, particularly around early coordinated rehabilitation and trauma team activation. Help Shape NOCA’s 2026–2028 Strategy We are currently developing NOCA’s next strategy, which will guide our work over the period 2026 to 2028. This short survey will take approximately 5 minutes to complete. Your feedback is important and will directly inform our strategy development. We want to hear from clinicians, audit staff, hospital management, patient representatives, policymakers, researchers, data partners and others who engage with national clinical audit. The survey is anonymous unless you choose to leave your contact details at the end to participate in a stakeholder workshop. The closing date for responses is midday, Monday 18th August 2025. 🔗 forms.office.com/e/dNsR3bHPDt

𝗖𝗛𝗜 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝘂𝗱𝗶𝘁 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘄𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗲 Yesterday, members of the NOCA team were honoured to take part in the @CHI_Ireland Quality Improvement and Clinical Audit Showcase. We were privileged to have Louise Brent, Head of Audit Management, and Dr Maria Kehoe, Audit Development Manager, deliver the keynote address. Louise provided an overview of NOCA’s work and showcased the wealth of paediatric data across many of our national audits. Maria shared an update on progress of the new electronic notification process for the National Paediatric Mortality Register (NPMR). They were joined for a Q&A by Professor Michael Barrett, Chair of the NPMR Governance Committee and Associate Professor Martina Healy, NPMR Clinical Lead. Also representing NOCA were Karina Hamilton, Audit Manager of the Irish Paediatric Critical Care Audit (IPCCA) and Lauren Churchill, Project Manager for the Irish Audit of Paediatric Diabetes (IAPD). The event was a fantastic opportunity to connect with colleagues and recognise the impressive clinical audit and quality improvement initiatives underway across the CHI hospital network. A huge thanks to Claire Collins, Quality Improvement & Patient Safety Portfolio Lead at CHI, for the kind invitation. We are also especially grateful to Lucy Nugent, CEO of CHI, and Gráinne bauer Bauer, Chief Director of Nursing, for their warm welcome and for championing the importance of clinical audit and quality improvement across CHI. #ClinicalAudit #QualityImprovement @DrMBarrett @GraBauer

𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗧𝗶𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲 (𝗔𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁) 𝗔𝗰𝘁 – 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝟮 NOCA welcomes the commencement yesterday (17 June 2025) of Part 2 of the Human Tissue (Amendment) Act, which introduces an opt-out system for organ donation in Ireland. We are proud to support our colleagues in @odti_irl in marking this significant milestone. Signed into law in February, this legislation changes how consent for organ donation is presumed, with the aim of better supporting donation conversations and ensuring that every citizen’s decision is respected. Through the Irish Potential Donor Audit (IPDA), NOCA continues to monitor trends, identify opportunities for improvement, and support learning from both successful and missed donation opportunities. These data-driven insights play a crucial role in guiding national policy and supporting our organ donation teams. We will continue to report on the impact of this legislation over time and remain committed to using audit to support quality and transparency in organ donation processes. You can find more information about organ donation and the opt-out register here: hse.ie/organdonation

📢 A brilliant session today hosted by NOCA with special thanks to Associate Professor Craig Lockwood from the Joanna Briggs Institute (@JBIEBHC). We are exploring how shared learning and international collaboration can drive quality improvement and evidence-based practice. Discussions have spanned everything from joint publication opportunities in @JBI_EI, to implementation pilot projects using NOCA audit data to enable local practice change. Grateful for the insights and looking forward to progressing collaboration that has real impact for healthcare in Ireland and beyond. #QualityImprovement #ClinicalAudit #EvidenceBasedPractice #ImplementationScience @CraigSL01 @MariaBKehoe

Members of the NOCA team are at the 4th Annual @HSEDubNorthEast Clinical Audit Meeting taking place in @Beaumont_Dublin today. Karen Healy, Organ Donation Nurse Manager for the Region presents now about the Irish Potential Donor Audit. She stresses the importance of having an Organ Donation Nurse Manager in each Region to have the conversation with families at end of life. The Irish Neonatal Health Alliance do great work to support families and professionals in the journey of a preterm infant. They are one of the many public and patient interest groups NOCA work with. Today is our day to say thank you and give back ❤️ 🧁

🧁 Today’s the day! We’re holding a NOCA Bake Sale in the foyer of @RCSI_Irl, 123 St Stephen’s Green, to raise funds for our Clinical Audit Awareness Week 2025 Charity Partner — the @IrishNeonatal Health Alliance (INHA). Selected from eight nominations put forward by our Patient and Public Interest (PPI) representatives, the INHA is the only Irish charity that supports families affected by premature birth - families of babies born too soon, too small and too sick to face the busyness of the world. They are represented in NOCA on the Children and Young People's (CYP) Audit Advisory Committee. 👣 Every cupcake, brownie and biscuit sold today helps raise awareness and support for family-centred neonatal care. 📍 Pop by RCSI today to grab some tasty treats and say hello! 💙 Not nearby? You can still support the cause here: 👉 justgiving.com/page/nocacaaw2… #CAAW25 #BakeSale #INHA #NeonatalCare #ClinicalAudit #NOCA2025
