@realtalkstruth @Math_files Very carefully. You might be amazed at what was accomplished, before you were born, that made modern instruments possible.

In 1798, a scientist effectively “weighed” the Earth — without leaving his laboratory. The English scientist Henry Cavendish designed an incredibly sensitive experiment. Inside a quiet wooden shed, he hung a horizontal rod from a very thin wire. Two small lead spheres were attached to the ends of the rod. Nearby, he placed two much larger lead balls. Because of gravity, the large spheres slightly pulled the smaller ones. The force was extremely tiny — so small that the rod twisted by only a minute fraction of a degree. Yet that tiny twist held a big secret. By carefully measuring this small movement, Cavendish determined the strength of the gravitational attraction between objects. From this, scientists could calculate the mass of the entire Earth. His estimate was remarkably close. Cavendish calculated Earth’s mass to be about 6 × 10²⁴ kilograms, while modern measurements give 5.97 × 10²⁴ kilograms. Sometimes the biggest discoveries come from measuring the smallest forces.

Interesting chart from Molior, showing city centre construction activity in Manchester has collapsed. I Leeds and Birmingham are similar. Goes to show that it's not unique to London, just hidden by the greater availabilty of greenfield suburban development elsewhere.

@rivkahbrown Let’s kill the supply of property to market. That will make rent cheaper for everyone.

@Jc62Matildamog How can you misunderstand the market so much. We have a supply issue. Anyone helping supply the market is not your enemy. How do you think large scale developments work if not for speculators and investors? Remove them, you reduce supply, your property prices and rent increase

Man on ITV news who owns 7 rental properties says he finds more rights for tenants “Hard to take”. Well I find it hard to take that one person can own 7 homes as well as their own, no wonder there’s a shortage of homes! Greedy bastards!

Wanna know what I think is NOT a coincidence? The guy playing Joe Biden, butting heads with the Pope at the same time Trump strategically places the red folder next to the lecturn he was speaking from. The Pope is uncomfortable for very good reason... He knows exactly what's going on. Follow the thread.

@jburnmurdoch Early 1900 saw massive housing volumes being delivered. 90% of housing was rented. Then rent controls made property speculation less interesting resulting in drop in supply. UK is and virtually has always been effected by chronic under supply which would be fairly easily fixed

NEW: we don’t reflect enough on how severe the housing crisis is, and how it has completely broken the promise society made to young adults. The situation is especially severe in the UK, where the last time house prices were this unaffordable was in ... 1876.

Any thoughts on this very welcome indeed. In the coming weeks I'm going to be applying it to the rest of London, with the intention of identifying every single small-site development opportunity in the city. Watch this space!

Using my #SmallSites AI tool, I've identified around 1,700 side-street infill opportunities in Lewisham alone (that's nearly half of the borough's entire small sites target). Here's a map showing where they all are.
