When you woke up this morning, your internet worked. You scrolled, you searched, you shared. But 90 million Iranians woke up — again — to total darkness. Their government has now imposed the longest nationwide internet blackout ever recorded in any country. Almost 40 consecutive days. That should alarm every one of us. Iran’s information blackout is a weapon against its own people. When governments can flip a switch and immediately disappear 90 million people from the internet, the rest of us lose our eyes and ears too.

@piersmorgan Did you expect them just to die quietly? Also. Since they had them and never used them until you carpet bombed their cities, it may be an indication they aren't interested in wars of aggression. Unlike your cohort who seem a little too keen to keep invading other nations.

The Iranian theocracy was an imminent threat. They were committed to our destruction and anyone telling you otherwise is misleading you. Between their lethal plotting against US targets, their continued efforts to shield their attempt to reconstitute their nuclear program using ballistic missiles, their global terror support, and their destructive drone program, there’s zero doubt about the threat level. Zero.

@DNIGabbard Does imminent mean in the next 399 years? Of course it does, because words are meaningless to people without honor, integrity, or morals.

Donald Trump was overwhelmingly elected by the American people to be our President and Commander in Chief. As our Commander in Chief, he is responsible for determining what is and is not an imminent threat, and whether or not to take action he deems necessary to protect the safety and security of our troops, the American people and our country.  The Office of the Director of National Intelligence is responsible for helping coordinate and integrate all intelligence to provide the President and Commander in Chief with the best information available to inform his decisions.  After carefully reviewing all the information before him, President Trump concluded that the terrorist Islamist regime in Iran posed an imminent threat and he took action based on that conclusion.

The closure of the Strait of Hormuz hurts the global economy and helps Russia fund its war. It is affecting our partners in the region and is dangerous for global energy supplies. Today, EU Foreign Ministers will discuss how to better protect shipping in the region, including contributions from our Aspides naval mission. My press remarks ahead of today’s Foreign Affairs Council ↓

@JamieMetzl Could you show us the human rights case to killing 160 school girls in a school? If you could use an illustration too, because some of us are still in remedial school. Thanks!

By all means we can and should discuss the means, but the removal of the murderous and existentially dangerous Iranian regime from power is justified. I say this as a Democrat, a former United Nations employee, and a lifelong human rights advocate.

@marcorubio On a scale of 1 to 10, how close were the girls you mass butchered to building a nuclear bomb? It's a good thing men like you don't believe in all that God stuff. Or human stuff.

@JamieMetzl Shocker. A person from the world's most populous nation killed during a carpet bombing attack on a civilian population. You, sir, are asking all the right questions. This is the kind of deep thinking we should all aspire to.

Keir Starmer has finally given the US permission to use British bases to destroy Iranian missiles. Better late than never. The Prime Minister is a follower, not a leader.

The latest developments across the Middle East are perilous. Iran’s regime has killed thousands. Its ballistic missile and nuclear programmes, along with support for terror groups, pose a serious threat to global security. The EU has adopted strong sanctions against Iran and supported diplomatic solutions, including on the nuclear issue. I have spoken to Israel’s Foreign Minister Saar and other ministers in the region. The EU is also coordinating closely with Arab partners to explore diplomatic paths. Protection of civilians and international humanitarian law is a priority. Our consular network is fully engaged in facilitating departures for EU citizens. Non-essential EU personnel are being withdrawn from the region. Our Aspides naval mission remains on high alert in the Red Sea and stands ready to help keep the maritime corridor open.

China and Russia must be having a field day. They are the ones who benefit from divisions among Allies. If Greenland’s security is at risk, we can address this inside NATO. Tariffs risk making Europe and the United States poorer and undermine our shared prosperity. We also cannot let our dispute distract us from the our core task of helping to end Russia’s war against Ukraine.

The Coalition of the Willing is meeting in Paris today. Our goal is clear: Provide robust security guarantees for Ukraine. With strong Ukrainian armed forces that can deter future attacks, a multinational force for deterrence and binding commitments to support Ukraine in the case of a future attack by Russia. Ukraine‘s accession to the EU will be both a key security guarantee in its own right and a central pillar of our transformative prosperity offer.

Russia’s claim that Ukraine recently targeted key government sites in Russia is a deliberate distraction. Moscow aims to derail real progress towards peace by Ukraine and its Western partners. No one should accept unfounded claims from the aggressor who has indiscriminately targeted Ukraine’s infrastructure and civilians since the start of the war.

@Georgetown’s decision to end my 10-year old affiliation is yet another fallout of the sanctions the US imposed on me last July for exposing Israel’s genocide and the complicity of US businesses. Any other explanation is the usual laughable propaganda of the pro-genocide minions.
