A5: PLCs! Don’t assume everyone understands. Be consistent in what you expect from your teachers and check on those who may not be as strong in implementation. Talk with students so they know what your vision is and how it will look in the classroom. #loveSCschools @SC_ATLL

@MatiaGoodwin I think the first step in the implementation is teacher and staff buy-in. I believe this is key for maximum impact. They may also find they are applying the concepts naturally and need the clarity on how to maintain for student success consistently.

@pnabbie @SC_ATLL A5: Veterans, I know you have some great tips to share. We are in the early stages, but I would say to start small and go deep with one of the visible learning practices. We are planning to go deep with Learning Intentions and Success Criteria this year. @SC_ATLL

@TekoaJones @SC_ATLL A3: Follow through is so important. Our word this year is intentionality. And you are right, just writing it on the board is not the same as explaining what they are learning! @SC_ATLL #loveSCschools

A3: At our school, it has been teachers actually following through. It’s one thing to have it posted on the board - learning intention, success criteria but do your students know the what and the why. Can they explain instead of stating. #loveSCschools @SC_ATLL

A4: When teachers collaborate to unpack standards, design common success criteria, and look at student work together, they leave feeling more confident and supported. It's a shared ownership of learning for teachers and students. #visiblelearning

@CoachGrase That's a great idea and a great way to shift the focus to "good learners"!

@MatiaGoodwin You are absolutely correct! This reminds me of the monthly character awards at my previous district. I am thinking if concepts of visual learning were used to celebrate “good learners” as well, what would be the positive impact on learning!

@pnabbie @SC_ATLL Yes, this has been a challenge for us. We've had to shift the mindset and discuss how clarity can actually take things off of our plates and not add more things to what we are doing.

@CoachGrase That has been a good conversation in our district. We spend a lot of time building good students, but sometimes we forget to focus on those good learner characteristics.

@MatiaGoodwin I am learning about visible learning. I like the concept and conversations about good student vs good learner. You can be a well-behaved student but what did you learn?

A2: I think the biggest impact comes from clarity. Students need to know what they are learning, why they are learning it and what success looks like. When we have clear learning intentions and success criteria, Tier 1 instruction becomes stronger.
