I’ve not watched music videos in a year or so and MTV was on in a bus station and I said, oh Dua has a new song, and no, that’s Bleona, and now I got to add her to the list with Bebe and Rita and action Bronson and…

How many pop stars is Albania going to export — someone put a tariff on them, our vapid musicians can’t compete

@PaulSkallas It's much simpler: laptops. If you're a teen and you want to make music, it's way easier to start right away on a laptop then spend months learning instruments, organizing people, and finding a place to make noise. Path of least resistance.

Rock's main base audience was male dominated suburban/urban white (and white adjacent) people. It died out in the 2010s as the mainstream pushed more female led pop, black led rap, and then southern white country music The northern white was culturally hollowed out, and had to join one of the other groups' music genre
big titty warlord@retarded__woman

Not to be a boomer but does anyone have any fun theories on why rock music as a subgenre of pop died out entirely by the 2010s?

This famous video filmed at the Sasquatch Music Festival 2009 is often shown in corporations, team working classes, etc. and it actually shows an interesting aspect in psychology: the role of leading with a example (even if weird) and imitation

@whatifalthist LA culture is dominated by transplants who move to the city for their own personal success (I am one of these people). So there's much less communal interest and cultural pride. (The rest of CA not like this, contrary to the other responses).

When I’m at a restaurant or shopping I often ask the staff what their favorite item is as know more than me. Back home in Philly they always have an answer and it starts a conversion. In LA they never answer saying “all our items are popular” and I ask “what do you like”.

Online dating apps are useful in that you can turn them on if you visit different areas of the country/world you're in and get a sense at the health of the population of the land.

the two party system no longer provides checks and balances. it is a school project where, depending on who the leader is, one side is trying to assemble the necessary materials and the other side is trying to kill the teacher and burn down the school.

There’s a continuum between individual-level prescriptive & cohort-level descriptive analyses. Just knowing what actions correlated with life improvement for folks with similar starting conditions may be helpful. A personalized version of @tferriss’s book. amazon.com/Tools-Titans-B…

Astrology doesn’t work, but machine learning might. Suppose you are Facebook or LinkedIn. You have a massive database of life histories. So you could probably do a decent forecast of where a 30-year-old with X job in Y city is likely to be in 5 years, using similar profiles.
