Urgent appeal to save student Maram Muqat
Student Maram Abd Mahmoud Abd Al-Ghaffar Muqat, a high school senior, was shot while returning home from school, leaving a bullet lodged in her spinal cord and causing paralysis in the lower part of her body.
Her condition is critical, and the specialized treatment she needs is not available in Gaza.
We urgently appeal to international institutions, humanitarian organizations, and people of goodwill to intervene immediately to evacuate Maram from Gaza and secure her travel abroad for treatment before it is too late.
Maram was striving for her future… today, she needs someone to give her a new chance at life.

Truly awful stuff. "Too big to fail" was exculpatory access journalism with zero historical value but at least it was exciting. Brian Windhorst has done less hagiography in his writing career than this guy. Read if you must but do not buy.

An interesting way to measure wealth. Once England started paying Danegeld in the Viking crisis, it developed a uniquely effective system of exaction from its population, making its nobility & institutions fabulously wealthy and its people very poor. Unlike the rest of Europe, there was no middle class, and no intellectual life or scientific development.
