@KnausgaardFacts Please do not use the SNL launch here as evidence for this

@frogs4girls Which part are you staying in? Best thing about it is how self contained the areas can feel. Like a collection of super urban villages
English

@ThatchEffendi Orthodoxy is kind of having a moment atm but I could see via media Protestantism coming back too. I’ve already seen a few op-eds here that go ‘why I’m going back to the CofE’ and the like

It’s wild how the world basically runs on nothing but this.

@FortKnoxIncome @pe_nng Do you think workers should get Universal Credit just because they work full time and pay taxes?
English

@pe_nng Work your full life, pay thousands in NI every year - also save for your own retirement. Be punished by not getting a state pension despite paying thousands in NI (never mind income tax) - really?
English

Means testing the pension like Australia does would save ~£65bn/yr
The UKs current defence budget is ~£60bn/yr
Andy@PositivFuturist
I don’t know why the left doesn’t talk more about pensions.. We literally have millionaires on benefits with brand new BMWs on their driveways.. living under the delusion that it’s money they paid in being paid back to them.
English

@TrueSlazac Oh no the market doesn’t like rent control? Poor market :(
Being called evil must really hurt you sensibilities, imagine not being able to afford rent now, that must be unthinkable for you :(
English

@popegatos True enough but I think that undersells the Coptic influence on Egypt as well as even the Church of the East’s influence on Iraqi Islam, especially Iraqi Sunnis. Islam is a kaleidoscope too many people boil down to Saudi style Wahhabism or Iran style Shi’i revival imo
English

@popegatos Fair to say it has huge christian influence and indeed that may affect its perception of the veil but to call it Christian seems a stretch. I wouldn’t call Bosnia Christian and it’s got a christian population of 45%, much more than Lebanons 30%-40%

@wessex_girlie He was actually an Albanian Zoroastrian his name was Jamşed Kamranbeyg
English

Why is blood and soil nationalism good and proper now as long as it separates St. George from England?
Frances 'Cassandra' Coppola@Frances_Coppola
St George was a Palestinian who never set foot in England.
English

@wessex_girlie I didn’t even bother interrogating that bit bc it’s like when they say he was a Turk when the Turks would not settle Anatolia for nearly 1000 years after he died
English

@waelgenga I know who Æthelstan is. I also would not name a town Anne for her creating Great Britain
English

These are all terrible but the most egregious is Athelstan. That’s a name. It’s like having a town called Steve
Politics UK@PolitlcsUK
🚨 NEW: The proposed names the Government is considering calling its new towns - Elizabethtown (after the Queen) - Pankhurst (after suffragette Emmeline) - Attleeton (after ex-PM) - Athelstan (first King of England) - Seacole (after nurse Mary) [@thetimes]

BIG history news this morning
Harold Godwinson’s famous march where he sped from Stamford Bridge to Hastings in four days is a tale as old as time
But now it looks as though the march never happened

There are legitimate arguments for National Service outside of wartime but i do not take any of them seriously from anyone who has not enlisted or at least tried to
Rupert Myers@RupertMyers
History will show that @RishiSunak was right about national service
