We had productive meetings with Representatives and Senators and their staff from Minnesota in Washington this week as part of @NPPC Fall Legislative Action Conference. Key issues include the e need for a Farm Bill, ag labor, trade, and MAHA. #NPPCLAC2025

Prop 12 was dreamt up by folks that have never stepped foot on a hog farm, but have dictated the terms by which #MN01 farmers raise their pigs. I’m proud of the actions @HouseAgGOP has taken to move on fixing Prop 12, creating certainty for the industry, and allowing our world-class hog farmers to do what they do best without California’s politically-motivated mandates.

Minnesota’s family farmers are being boxed out by regulations they never had a say in. Prop. 12 leaves them with two options: make costly changes or stop selling into key markets. When one state tells the rest how to farm, consumers and family farmers pay the price.#FixProp12

Prop. 12 turns the meat aisle into a compliance nightmare. Precooked bacon is legal. Raw bacon isn’t. Tomorrow, the House Ag Committee will hold a hearing on the chaotic impacts of Prop. 12—from higher costs for producers (and consumers!) to a strain on supply chains. #FixProp12

Today, NPPC President Lori Stevermer testified before the @HouseAgGOP's Subcommittee on Livestock, Dairy, and Poultry regarding Prop. 12. California's Prop. 12 puts small and medium-sized family farms at risk. We have a chance to save them – but Congress must act to #FixProp12.

Since 1974, Christensen Farms in Sleepy Eye has grown into one of the largest family-owned pork producers in the U.S., ranking in the top 10 nationwide. Today, I spoke on the House Floor recognizing the 50th anniversary of @CF_Farms and wished them many successful years ahead.

The @HouseAgGOP has released its full 2024 Farm Bill. Thanks to producer advocacy, 100% of NPPC's solutions to Prop. 12, foreign animal disease prevention, and market access enhancements are all included. The Committee will vote on the bill May 23. Read our full press release:

Speaking last week at a @HouseAgGOP @HouseAgDems subcommittee hearing, NPPC President-Elect Lori Stevermer was clear: the U.S. needs more comprehensive trade agreements that eliminate or significantly reduce tariffs and non-tariff barriers to U.S. exports.
