If your hand isn’t strong enough to face a raise you shouldn’t bet even if you’d get called by worse. One of the best plays in live poker is check-calling the river especially after you’ve had the betting lead with something strong that doesn’t block top pair.

@RobKuhn_ A4 played great. Villain isn’t betting this river sizing with any singled paired J or 8. Villain has loads of QT and T9, and some more specific combos of Q9dd, T7dd to bluff with. This is either a strong K, 2 pair (which we block), or a bluff. A4 only needs 30% win % to call.

@PhillMendel @DigitalWaves11 @tombos21 Practically speaking, most regs would be worried about getting a light 4 bet through both the lojack and hijack. They’d fold their non premiums and wait for a “better” spot. Recreationals almost never 4 bet bluff and often just cold call 3 bets when they want to continue.

@DigitalWaves11 @tombos21 I’m sure they are finding some wide 4bets. In the USA, online, in general, outside the best guys, people are way under 4betting. So lots of times, smaller, more theoretical sizing, can be super effective!

I'm beginning to think Clanty's signature miniature IP 3-bet is overpowered. 100bb deep, UTG opens 2x, Clanty bumps it up to like 4.8bb(?!). In a vacuum this sizing is suboptimal. But practically speaking it's got merit. UTG needs to defend extremely wide; most players will struggle defending this postflop. And if you nodelock a more realistic (slightly passive) response, all of a sudden it's printing preflop and HJ gets to enter the pot much wider than usual. @KnowYourPoker_
