I'm at college orientation day with my daughter. There was a talk about disabilities and learning accommodations. The speaker reported that the number one reason for students to receive accommodations is anxiety and psychological disorders. ADHD is second. Medical disabilities are last on the list of 4. The speaker expressed no alarm or concern over these stats. She was happy to calm the nerves of the anxious parents in the room worrying about how their young adult children were going to survive in college. There are very few people talking about the cause or solutions for this trend.

The MOVE organization, founded in the early 1970s by John Africa, was a Black liberation and environmentalist group that advocated for natural living and opposed systemic oppression. Over time, MOVE members became known for their tense relationship with local authorities, fueled by clashes over their lifestyle, beliefs, and repeated confrontations with police. The situation escalated dramatically on May 13, 1985. The City of Philadelphia, under the direction of Mayor Wilson Goode, authorized an aggressive eviction operation against MOVE members living in a row house at 6221 Osage Avenue in the Cobbs Creek neighborhood. A standoff ensued. After hours of failed negotiations and heavy gunfire exchanged between police and residents, the police made a fateful decision: a bomb was dropped from a helicopter onto the home. It was a satchel charge made of C-4 explosives, supplied by the FBI. The bomb sparked a fire — and Philadelphia officials let it burn. The aftermath was devastating: 11 people were killed, including 5 children. 61 homes were destroyed, displacing over 250 residents. The entire neighborhood block was reduced to ashes. I have some bad news for y'all. The processed foods are not THE thing making us fat and chronically ill. It might, with emphasis on might, be a contributing factor, but unless we address our problems with impulse control, overindulgence, and sedentary lifestyle, we will remain a fat and sick society.
