When I was growing up in the 1970s and 1980s no one saw color. We were all just Americans. Why did that change?

Now more than ever, on this National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, we thank and honor our heroic DHS law enforcement who protect the public. These men and women are patriots in the truest sense. They are steady under pressure and resolute in purpose. Their sacrifice is not small - they bear endless slander from the media, and are accosted every day by those who wish to do them harm. Even so, they continue to hold the line with bravery. Be sure today to thank those men and women in your life who have sworn an oath to protect our homeland. As we need them, they now need us.

Today, we honor and thank all of the dedicated men and women of law enforcement. Their professionalism, commitment and sacrifice in service to our communities all across America does not go unnoticed nor unappreciated. Thank you for all that you do - today and every day.
