Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has this evening arrived in Accra, Ghana ahead of the high-level Tana Forum on Security in Africa, a key continental platform that brings together African leaders and stakeholders to discuss African-led solutions to peace, governance, and regional security challenges. Kenyatta joined the @TanaForum Board in 2024, becoming one of the few former African presidents entrusted with the strategic oversight of the institution. His appointment followed his expanding role as the African Union peace envoy and mediator in regional peace processes, particularly in the Horn of Africa and the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where he has been actively involved in peace negotiations and stability efforts. Upon arrival in Ghana, Kenyatta was received by Colonel (Rtd) Shem Ishmailidza Amadi, Kenya’s High Commissioner to Ghana.

Our officers in the Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission to Haiti served with utmost dedication and raised our Kenyan flag high. Working with Haiti National Police and other MSS officers, they secured critical infrastructure, including the airport, seaport, and major transport corridors. They also restored state presence in previously inaccessible areas and supported the reopening of schools, hospitals, and businesses. Held engagements with Haitian authorities and the diplomatic community at Toussaint Louverture International Airport in Port-au-Prince, and oversaw the final drawdown of the Kenya-led Multinational Security Support mission. The drawdown of the last contingent of 150 Kenyan officers marks the end of the MSS and the successful transition to the Gang Suppression Force. Though the Mission has ended, Kenya’s solidarity with the people of Haiti is enduring. We extend our sincere appreciation to all partners who supported this Mission and reaffirm our commitment to multilateral cooperation in the maintenance of global peace and security. Present were Haitian Defence Minister Mario Andrésol, Director General of the Haitian National Police André Jonas Vladimir Paraison and the Gang Suppression Force Special Representative Jack Christofides. The Kenyan delegation included Inspector General Douglas Kanja and the National Security Advisor Joseph Boinett.
