@laurenkarcz @MissDahlELama If you’re willing to reach back a bit, I feel like DJ McHale’s “Pendragon” series, Eoin Colfer’s “Artemis Fowl” series, and Anthony Horowitz’s “Alex Rider” series are all kinda in that sweet spot. Pendragon is especially great as it grows in complexity as you read.

@anxiousliblady A decent Bluetooth speaker would be awesome, I’m sure. We often did a movie theater gift card with something. That was universally loved. Or we did two smaller “grand prizes” and would give a giftcard to our local anime/manga store and something related.

When designing a new library, it is important to include mostly people who don’t use or understand libraries, so the idealized version can shine through. Front line staff are too jaded and mock things like “cozy reading nooks” because they know what goes on in hidden places. 😬🧵
