If Holly (Ilex aquifolium) finds its leaves are being nibbled by deer, it switches genes on to make them spiky when they regrow. So on taller Holly trees, the upper leaves (which are out of reach) have smooth edges, while the lower leaves are prickly 🤙

This little fella crashed into a window yesterday at my dad's and seemed to be quite hurt.
After some improvised A&E, it is doing a bit better. Still not flying but following my dad all around the house.
What can be done? My dad is cocooning so a vet visit is not an option. 🤷🏽♀️
