Spent the last couple days on Willow. They were displacing folks due to an event with a politician happening tonight. Sweeps are very traumatic, by design. Why so many cops? Why ANY cops?! Well, because it’s a Sweep. Get rid of tents. Most folks moved to the next alley.

.@ezraklein: “What is, to you, the ‘rage economy’?” @JamesTalarico: “The billionaires own the algorithms and the news networks. They have created for-profit platforms that divide us on an hourly basis — by party, by race, by gender, by religion. They elevate the most extreme voices very strategically to provoke our outrage, because that leads to more clicks, which leads to more money for them. They are selling us conflict right into our bloodstream, and they’re calling it connection. And I think it’s left people starving for actual community.”

This week there were two pretty contentious community meetings about Upzoning. There are the legit concerns people are articulating about the Upzoning plan. The question is — if and when an alternative plan is put forward, would the Mayor & all Supes embrace it? 1/

Friends, yesterday, I had the extraordinary opportunity of delivering a prayer in the Rose Garden of the White House. What follows is the text of that invocation, which was offered in the presence of the president and other government leaders to mark the National Day of Prayer. Heavenly Father, Sovereign King, we bless you, we praise you, and we thank you for all your benefits to our country. We know that the rights we enjoy—to life, to liberty, to the pursuit of happiness—are given not by government or popular consensus but by you. We acknowledge, Lord, that since just law is grounded in moral law, and moral law in eternal law, we are, indeed, a nation under God. We praise you especially today for religious liberty, which has been reverenced from the very beginning of our country as our first freedom. We ask that you might give us the grace to preserve and strengthen it.   O God, to whom every human power is subject, we beg you to bless our president as he exercises the prerogatives of his high office. May he strive always to please you in what he says and does, and may he govern under the direction of your providence. And may he, in his deliberations and decisions, always be particularly mindful of those who suffer and who are most in need.   Gracious Lord, look kindly, too, upon the people of our great nation, that we might be architects of justice and makers of peace, that we might indeed be prosperous and strong, but above all righteous and docile to your will. We make these prayers in the name of Jesus, whose Resurrection from the dead we celebrate this Easter season, and who is Lord forever and ever. Amen.

There is no housing in DC. Shelters are full. Where does @MayorBowser expect people to go? Bowing to Trump and his billionaire friends won't do anything to solve homelessness, but it is causing further harm to our unhoused neighbors and wasting taxpayer dollars.

Clearing of homeless encampment near State Dept scheduled for noon has already begun. One woman taken from her tent and placed in handcuffs by @DCPoliceDept @nbcwashington

The Crypto Strategic Reserve is more than a money scam. It's a plot to dismantle democracy and replace nation-states with "network states." Tech bros have openly discussed it for years. For the @newrepublic I wrote about this scary dystopian vision: newrepublic.com/article/185738…

“Experts agree clearing or ‘sweeping’ encampments alone can’t end homelessness. But here’s what we did see over and over as a result of sweeps: people becoming more likely to lose touch with support services, people losing essential items…” kqed.org/news/12029249/…

So - I've actually led Ebola outbreak response at @USAID. This is bunk from Elon. They have laid off most of the experts, they're bankrupting most of the partner orgs, have withdrawn from WHO, and muzzled CDC. What's left is a fig-leaf effort to cover their asses politically.

They’re letting a megalomaniac billionaire desperate for validation play President – if you’re surprised people are pissed, you need to get out of your DC bubble. Nothing more American than hating a bad boss, especially an illegitimate one like Musk. Republicans just don’t like being called on it.
