Today I’m trying to write the framework that explains why biology is not Turing complete.

The Rust community is pretty annoying, but the anti-Rust community is on a whole other level of insufferable. Guys, grow up, there's more to life. 😅

broad distraction with methods that show superficial or unscalable progress before eventually pivoting back and scaling up more principled methods from scratch (in a way that most progress on the unscalable methods doesn't transfer). happened alot throughout this field's history. people love to optimize deadends till the very end.

@PLTenjoyer That helps a lot, but if you know where you want to push them and correct mistakes you can get them into good states, also saying look for latest research is helpful to get them out of their internal knowledge which is where a lot of the superficial stuff is

a key to using LLMs for research is being able to recognize when they give you a superficial answer, eg the kind you would see in a popular source, and pushing them to give you a more technical sota answer

Naming their next model after Cthulhu makes it hard to take Anthropic seriously as the good guys. It's fun at any other software company, not one that actually is flirting with extinction.

“ A draft blog post that was available in an unsecured and publicly-searchable data store prior to Thursday evening said the new model is called “Claude Mythos” and that the company believes it poses unprecedented cybersecurity risks. “

The G in AGI stands for "general". General intelligence does not mean that you have been specifically trained for a large range of tasks. It means you can approach any NEW task and figure it out, just like humans do. If regular people can do it on their own (no guidance, no tools), why should AGI require special handholding and handcrafted instructions? If it's AGI, why would there still be a human in the loop, using their own human intelligence to guide the model on every new task?

In the coming days, employers will see a stream of resumes of once-in-a-lifetime quality folks. An important thing to understand is that Epic never lowered our hiring standards as we grew, and the layoff wasn't a performance-based "rightsizing" as companies call it nowadays. It's a sound bet that anyone with Epic Games on their resume is in the top few percent of their discipline.

Sad news for Epic Games. Hope the efforts to turn things around can work. gamesbeat.com/epic-games-lay…

@leothecurious am i too schizo in thinking that most ai researchers are severely oneshot by math slop? seems like if a good idea doesn't easily fall out of manipulating an existing equation they wont pursue it. too many exploiters not enough explorers

@LeoBreston @Qivshi1 3) And this is precisely what brain cells control through homeostasis. You simply consider this to be an epiphenomenon, but I think that without criticality, the brain would not function at all. And I see no reason why this should not also apply to organoids
