Immigration sentence discounts for criminal non-citizens are wildly unpopular; even the very liberal-leaning Canadian subreddits think that banning them is a no-brainer. Disappointing to see this voted down but I look forward to seeing the Liberals squirm over it next election.

I am so done with foreigners and their anchor babies. This morning while taking my daughter to school, I got hit by an Indian teenage girl who didn’t even apologize for running the red light. She was more concerned about the wreck being ruled against her. Did she ask if we were OK? Nope! This happened right near my neighborhood. My husband arrived well before her parents did. When he went to check on her, because that’s what decent human beings do, she said she didn’t like the fact that I was mad at her for running the red light. My brain can’t even comprehend that mindset! Did her parents ask if we were OK when they showed up? Nope! They didn’t even acknowledge our presence. The level of rage I have right now has me shaking. Will she be found at fault? Given that she ran the red light while turning left across the highway and cut into the turn lane, I had a green arrow light, and I had already checked the intersection twice before starting to pull out, I would think so. The girl was flying. She admitted that she “didn’t notice” me given her speed. Am I still worried that her parents will try to scam their way out of paying for damages? Absolutely.

@echipiuk Respectfully I disagree. This just transfers the power to provincial leaders. The democratic solution is allowing people to vote for judges.

This is a positive and necessary step. Canada needs to take a serious look at how we appoint judges to the superior trial courts, courts of appeal, and the Supreme Court of Canada. These are foundational institutions, and the process should reflect the importance of public confidence, transparency, and regional input. Strong institutions depend on trust. Reforming the appointments process is part of how we build and maintain that trust.

Alberta Students would pay close to 140,000 for a 4 year engineering degree at the University of Toronto. Scholarships for Indians at the U of T is just another example or Carney screwing Albertans. I wonder if Carney plans to give them Citizenship along with the scholarship?

@PardyBruce @nationalpost Prisons are government-funded .Currently facilities are full and a lot of their prisoners have complex needs. I suspect this is what drives the reduced sentences. Would it help if we changed to a prison as a business model? P.S I don’t at all agree with the status quo.

As a confirmed Alberta Separatist supporting Independence (I signed the Petition) I will still vote in a Federal Election if one is held before Alberta becomes an independent nation. I do not trust the @CPC_HQ and @PierrePoilievre to fairly represent Alberta, but I will always vote for the least objectionable party. The @liberal_party and @NDP are easily the MOST objectionable No matter how committed to Alberta Independence we may be, we must still vote in Federal elections if Alberta is still held hostage as a province in Canada

@ikwilson I fully support the independence movement. However, I have slightly disagree. The Liberals have green lit resource extraction, port reform, and Wind West in Eastern Canada. The revenue from these should help the provinces withdraw from Alberta transfer payments

@erik_thorvalds I think the Carney government is extracting resources and building ports in Quebec to help these provinces become less reliant on transfer payments. The bigger concern is the Westminister Parliamentary system and the practice of giving concessions to some provinces (ie Quebec)

Alberta holds Canada up as usual. If it weren’t for the Albertan economy, Canada would be in considerably more dire straits.

@MarcScottEmery A huge difference can be made simply by incentivizing businesses that hire Canadian youth, elderly, or veterans. Let’s shuffle the money the government gives to offset low wages for TFWs to helping these businesses that hire Canadians
