@WakoclipsR@WallStreetMav Nobody said SNAP was designed to boost junk food sales. It was a cause to why junk food got price hiked because people on SNAP 'could' buy it.
Reduce the demand and prices drop, nothing complicated and what he is saying is a fact.
“people who get these SNAP benefits can't use that money to buy chips. It means demand goes down for those foods because the government was subsidizing consumers to buy junk food.”
“What does Pepsi do in response to a decline in demand for its products? It lowers prices.”
“That's how the free market works. The government subsidized consumers to buy junk food by giving them money to pay for it. And so that allowed the companies that sell that type of food to charge higher prices. When the government reduces the subsidy that it provides. Now the companies have to cut their prices.”
“Well, if it works with junk food, it works the same way with everything. Everything the government subsidizes costs more as a direct result of the subsidy. Why is education so expensive, particularly colleges? Because the government subsidizes students to go to college.”
“The government arranges for guaranteed loans or directly finances low interest rate loans to make it easy for people to borrow money to pay for college. That means that colleges could charge more because their customers are getting money from the government to buy their product. What would happen if the government stopped doing that? The government stopped giving out grants and loans. Well, just what Pepsi did. They'd have to cut their prices because demand would go down.”

I have a sneaky suspicion that the Iran war will start to die down because there have been things happening on the ground in Iran that nobody is aware of but which will change everything.
Everybody has been so focused on the bombing and missiles and the Strait of Hormuz that they’ve not been paying attention to the words said by several high profile people involved with this war over the past few days.
I think we’re about to have a whole new Revolution in Iran, but unlike the Islamic Revolution, this one will a Revolution that removes the Islamists and gives Iran back to the Iranian people.
Something big is coming. And it’s going to be glorious.

H Res 965 is backdoor amnesty for hundreds of thousands of Haitians who came into our country illegally.
It is an abject disgrace and a shameful betrayal of everything Republicans ran on in 2024. All conservatives should vehemently rejected it.
Unfortunately, the bill was just discharged on the House floor with 219 votes. We will vote on final passage of the bill tomorrow.
Buried inside the Farm Bill is an amendment backed by 29 members of Congress that would effectively ban hunting with dogs nationwide. No hounds for bear, no rabbit dogs, no coonhunting, no field trials.
It was pushed through on a voice vote, disguised as an anti-greyhound racing bill while the real impact on hunting was barely discussed. This is a direct attack on one of the oldest hunting traditions in America.
We need to stop it now. Call your representatives and demand this amendment be removed from the Farm Bill. Make it clear hunters are paying attention.
If we let this slide, it won’t stop here. We cannot let this happen

TRAVEL NEWS: A full-body digital screening is now being implemented at airports for travellers heading for EU countries
thetravelmagazine.net/a-shocking-get…
@HungaryBased@Pepper_Rides He states, he says, he communicates....Big fucking deal! Look at who he is! He's a psychopathic scumbag and he will do what scumbag psychopaths do. He will go back on his word at the first opportunity!
🇭🇺 🧵HUGE! Magyar Péter RESPONDS to the 27 Demands of the European Union!
"Only 4 of those 27 conditions will be fulfilled!"
•Strengthening anti-corruption measures
•Restoring independence to investigative authorities/ judicial system.
•Restoring press freedom (government funds will stop)
•Restoring freedom in the academic environment.
Everything Else will be Protected!
Magyar Péter communicates the fact, that the policies of no income tax for mothers and pensions will NOT be changed. He also states he doesn't plan to increase income taxes.
Magyar wants to keep the southern border fence, and REJECTS the EU Migration and Asylum Pact.
He states his priority is to reinstate the Druzhba pipeline's operation as its the key to Hungary's economy.
He also OUTLINES Ukraine, will NOT enter the EU unless they come to an agreement of suitable rights for ethnic Hungarians in Transcarpathia, including restoring the linguistic, educational, and cultural rights.
Magyar states any money sent from the EU to Ukraine, Hungary will opt out of. He also plans to conduct a referendum on Ukraine's accession into the EU.
The rights, programs and support for ethnic Hungarians is also to be continued and NOT abandoned.
He also states he will DEFEND Hungary's interests and is NOT a federalist.
Overall, it is increasingly looking like not a lot will change. Alot of Orbán's international allies have also congratulated him already.
I'm increasingly getting the idea that the EU and the NGOs have no idea who they placed into power. They made a huge compromise with Hungary's patriots just to win the elections in Hungary.
I'm also seeing a tendency that his anti-Orbán but mainly anti-Fidesz position is largely just cinema. To show to the West and the leftists that voted him that there will be a 'change' in the country.
The leftists also made a huge compromise because they don't constitute any political party in the Hungarian Parliament anymore.
The actual leadership around Magyar is dominated by centre-right, technocratic, and ex-fidesz pragmatists — not hardcore leftists or green activists.
The parliamentary group of the Tisza party is mixed but centre-right dominated. It is not evenly split left/right. The left/green element is visible but secondary. They were more present in the voter base over actual elected MPs.
The faction is built around Magyar’s centre-right inner circle. The left-liberal baggage exists but is mostly in the voter coalition and lower ranks.
Overall, I would say this is good news. Although I would be still cautious especially of their status in the EPP, but it may be true that we just elected one patriot with another. Let's also NOT forget Fidesz and Orbán were in the EPP until 2021.
One is for certain, Hungary will NO longer block or veto Ukraine's weapons or money from the EU, and we will be in this regard be "re-accepted by NATO".
So good luck, for the rest of the European Union because we held out for 4 years.
Now, you don't have Hungary to blame for all your pro-Ukraine goals and the risks of a larger war is looming even greater in Europe.
Who pays for the solar panels on these parking lots? All new homes in California have to have rooftop solar.
They have too much electricity now (worse than not enough) in the winter when it is sunny and mild (no air conditioning use). The utility pays out-of-state utilities to take that electricity and charges their customers for this.
@giveashitnature@jackson_scruffy OMG there is tons of verification offshore wind turbines kill whales. Just the pounding alone to install them (before the deathening vibration of the spinning mega blades) kills the whales.
Unfollowed! You are Full Of Shit!
There’s no good evidence that offshore wind is causing whale deaths, while there are countless studies showing that large commercial shipping harms whales through ship strikes and noise.
And a large share of global seaborne trade, roughly 40% by volume, is tied to fossil fuels or energy cargo.
A single whale sequesters as much carbon as 1,000 trees when it dies.
When a whale passes on, its carcass sinks to the ocean floor and locks an average of 33 tons of CO2 into the deep sea for potentially thousands of years.
While it's alive, it does something even more remarkable. Whales feed in deep water and surface to breathe and poop, pumping iron and nitrogen from the deep ocean up to the sunlit surface where phytoplankton need them to grow.
Phytoplankton produce 50% of Earth's oxygen and capture 40% of all CO2 produced globally. Four Amazon rainforests worth of carbon absorption, every year, from organisms you can't see with the naked eye.
A 1% increase in phytoplankton productivity from whale activity alone would be equivalent to planting 2 billion mature trees.
Whale populations are currently at less than a quarter of their pre-whaling numbers. Some species are at 3%.
We didn't just hunt whales. We dismantled a carbon capture system that took millions of years to build.
Can someone please explain, in very simple language, how growing almonds in a Californian desert, draining the local aquifer until the ground subsides, spraying the entire crop with fungicides because almonds can't survive without them, killing off the commercial bee population in the process, then refrigerating the harvest and shipping it six thousand miles to Britain is environmentally friendly,
but buying a piece of beef from a farmer twelve miles down the road, whose cattle eat the grass that grows in the rain that falls on the hills that have been there since before anyone had opinions about this,
is a planetary emergency?
Asking for the cow.
Rhode Island passed into law an "assault weapons ban" that prohibited the sale, manufacture, and transfer of "assault weapons". But they had a Grandfather Clause that said that if you already OWNED one of these "assault weapons" you could keep it; if you paid a fee and registered it.
Well, they just got on the State House Floor and said they are now presenting another bill that would REMOVE the Grandfather Clause and CONFISCATE those "assault weapons"; and if you did not comply, you would spend 10 years in prison.
Not only was this presented, it was openly stated that this was the intended goal all along anyways! The first law and BAN was simply the "first step" in DISARMING law abiding citizens. And no, this isn't hyperbole on my part, it was OPENLY STATED ON THE FLOOR OF THE STATE HOUSE.
WAKE UP AMERICA!
Yes, when they say "no one is coming for your guns" they are LYING! And there is a REASON why we have the 2nd Amendment... THESE PEOPLE!
And there it is. Your move citizens of Rhode Island.... or should I say "subjects"?
On a related note, it is well past time the SCOTUS ends all this foolishness once and for all. SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED.the whisky cowboy
@FireNewz@RepLuna Looks like this is "news" from early March. The republican led house voted to keep the hush fund hush-hush.
I don't know the legalities of releasing it through oversight
A friendly reminder that House Oversight subpoenaed the records of the congressional sexual harassment slush fund and we will be releasing them. Maybe we’ll see more resignations, you never know. #trashday
