This is a really bad argument.
There’s a difference between emulating a rare 30-year-old Famicom game that’s no longer available and choosing to pirate modern, easily available stuff just because you perceive it as expensive.
It’s no longer about preservation.

@ValcomDrifty I stumbled upon one where Mario was naked. The game started in a SMB1 Castle, and you would move Right into a chamber with Peach on her knees. After a few minutes I realized they were both naked and quit out of embarrassment. There was another room but it was too high to reach

@RoseSilicon @meatball_132 I've heard many people say Nintendo is hypocritical for using emulation themselves, but I think they're missing the point: Nintendo is against people playing their games in unofficial ways, not emulation (as long as that emulation is done officially).

@meatball_132 I feel like people think Nintendo is a bunch of hypocrites (they are), but the truth is Nintendo has been emulating since the start. They just don’t want you to play their games on non-Nintendo hardware. It just so happens that emulation is the only way to do this.

They employed the guy who developed iNES and he reused his header format.

@rinsass it'd be nice if that were true. Historically it hasn't been. Nintendo used pirated roms for some of the virtual console stuff because the original code was gone there's plenty of classic games where the companies say that even with the source code it no longer builds
