Gehry’s work marks the final decadence of architectural modernism, the point at which it stopped trying to pretend to follow the Bauhaus dictum “form follows function” and admitted all along that its real principle was “form follows ego.” Gehry, like a number of other successful figures in the arts, figured out that since everything meaningful had already been said using the language of modernism, the only way to be original was to lapse into self-referential babble. The only thing his buildings say is “Look at me? Aren’t I creative?” It’s the precise architectural equivalent of the kind of performance “art” that involves the artist dropping trou on a public stage and masturbating.

@ProGof39474 @mbw61567742 Morris brought up the Lancet study, seemingly unaware that the Proximals have declared it non-cannon. The Lancet study’s report of a first case on Dec 1 without ties to the market and 3/4 first cases having no market ties is highly inconvenient for their Huanan zoonosis claim.

There are way too many b2b SaaS AI dev tool advertisements on the NYC subway. Boston, a much more dignified city, still has subway ads that say things like "addicted to meth? Want to quit? Come to Mass General Hospital and be our lab rat for $500."

My favorite pet theory is that Tolkien intensely disliked Dune not because of its religious commentary, but that the name Duncan Idaho sent the Oxford Professor who spent his life studying languages into a rage-induced aneurysm.

What if there were one day every year when we all took a break from fighting each other on Twitter, and worked together on repealing the Jones Act to remind ourselves of our shared humanity and common goals?

@ProGof39474 1. The preprint declared patent on their novel diagnostic technology vanished in the published paper without explanation. 2. Early outbreak patient samples flipped from Negative/Inconclusive to Positive in Table 2 with no methods change, no re-sequencing and unchanged totals!

@BillyBostickson If anything, it makes the epidemic appear earlier than it would appear under innocent circumstances, so I couldn’t think of anything non-innocent circumstances. My guess is that it’s not super significant and just sloppy work but I had to at least mention it.
