While Trump lectures the world on economic independence, the world just moved on without him. Today, the EU signed a free trade deal with Australia. Earlier this year, they closed one with India. In May, the Mercosur deal covering Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and Paraguay kicks in. Brussels is signing with everyone. Washington is tariffing everyone.

Big, glossy coalition talk. Sounds like a G7 brochure. Reality check: These countries don’t act as one. Different interests. Different dependencies. Constant disagreement. Canada can’t build pipelines or houses on time. Europe can’t agree on energy. Japan is aging fast. Australia trades heavily with China. That’s not a power bloc. That’s a loose network. And the “bigger than the U.S.” line? Canada sends ~75% of exports to the U.S. You don’t replace your biggest partner with a press release. R&D spending? Nice. But Canada’s problem isn’t ideas. It’s execution. Overregulation. Delays. Capital leaving. Here’s the truth: You don’t build strength by stacking countries on a slide. You build it by fixing your own economy first. Energy. Housing. Productivity. Everything else is branding.
