@davefranklin I liked the book because of its interesting premise and hard sci fi approach, but it was just as goofy and trite. A drunk Russian. Awkward autistic scientists. An honorable Chinese guy. The characters are all flat. Haven’t seen the movie yet but don’t expect that to change.

@faustocoppi60 And then to what end? Say they get to the poggio like that. It’s pretty short. How many attacks can you roll on MVDP? Even after several attacks last year he still almost dropped pog at the top. I don’t think having a second guy allows you to hurt him much more on a short climb.

Do not underestimate how much more expensive Paul Seixas is for a French team, compared to non-French teams like UAE Team Emirates, INEOS-TotalEnergies or Visma-Lease a Bike. Let's say Paul Seixas wants €4M on his bank account... French law requires riders to be employed, and to receive a ~€4M net salary, Decathlon CMA-CGM would have to pay Paul Seixas a gross salary of ~€5-7M, employer contributions of ~€2M, and an image rights payment of ~€1M. That is a total cost of ~€8-10M for Decathlon-CMA CGM. If Paul Seixas moves to Andorra and signs with a non-French team as a self-employed entity, the team only has to pay him ~€4.5M for Seixas to have €4M on his bank account. This means non-French teams can offer significantly more net pay for Seixas than Decathlon-CMA CGM, and still spend less in total. 💸
