@RodAVanier Carney is not leading Canada through a crisis, he’s leading Canada into a crisis.

I'd love to have high speed train! Problem is $90 billion dollars for Alto will turn into half a trillion. The train will NEVER be built. But lots of Liberals will become rich at your expense. Just like with this stupid launch pad.

@JerryBones8 @Roman_Baber All of Canada’s space program has been on the coattails of the US. Maybe they’ll hire the builders of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT to build the project. Haven’t Liberals stolen enough from Canadian taxpayers?

@RMoosant @globeandmail And when was that? After the part in quotations? You mean the part I copied and pasted from the article? Hence why it's in quotations... Those aren't my words. ROFL

Well because of population density being mostly concentrated in Ontario and the people in the East being mostly left leaning, this means elections are often called before the polls in the West even close. It literally means our votes don't matter. The country then proceeds to form policies and laws to the detriment or in opposition to the belief systems, culture, and preferred ways of life by Western peoples in Alberta. Our interests are so vastly different and they're not being protected or cared about at all. Our futures, fates, interests are being decided by people who live more than a 3 days drive away who have never even stepped foot on the land here. With 10+ years of federal liberal government and no balancing of the scales (most democracies see an ebe and flow or rotating of governments every few years) this isnt the case for Canada. It appears Canada is stuck in a permanent federal super majority. Despite the country spiraling downward economically with housing, homelessness, substance abuse, and health care specialist wait times. Why would Albertans want to be a part of a larger group that continually forces a way of life, political beliefs, oppositional economics on it? There's zero compromise or listening to the people of Alberta. If they decide to leave fairly and democratically thats up to them.

"Alberta separatism is extremely strange. That’s not because Alberta doesn’t have legitimate grievances against the federal government or a distinctive culture that is different from other parts of Canada. It has both those. What Alberta doesn’t have is a national identity." How can a group of people have a distinct culture that is different from the rest, but that culture not be part of an "identity"? There is no "national identity" in Alberta because Alberta isn't currently a nation. At the moment, it's a "provincial identity". TomAYto. TomAHto. The article then proceeds to compare Alberta to Scotland. And this guy's credentials state he researches European history (among other things). Scotland? Really? Of all the places... Even if you have never read a book on Scottish history, let's not forget that some of the pioneers in Alberta were Scots. For some reason, this is not mentioned in the plot. There's a bunch of other things I mulled over, but didn't read properly, so I can't really give an opinion on, but... As for something being "never done before"... You can literally say that about anything, as nothing was done before the first time it was done. But something "never been done before" didn't stop it from happening the first time, did it? Saying something can't be done because it hasn't been done before is a slap across the face to every innovator, everywhere. This opinion piece is rubbish (IMO). If you're going to be pro or anti separation, at least make valid points worth reading.

@globeandmail I have lived in Ontario all my life. But I fully understand Alberta’s frustration. I would not be surprised if they vote to separate. Quebec can then look to the EU for its annual equalization payments…or Brookfield. Elbows Up.

@crumber_26 @globeandmail It’s the morons who keep electing this incompetent and corrupt Liberal Party that are destroying the nation. Carney’s illegitimate unelected majority may be the last nail in the coffin of democracy in this once great nation. Elbows Up.

@TorontoStar Canadians who voted for Liberals did so on Carney’s promise he would negotiate a deal with US. No one voted to “pivot away from US”…but then no one voted for a Liberal majority either. Canadians need to stand up to Liberals. Canada is not a dictatorship…or is it?

COLUMN: Is Canada becoming a one-party state? While the federal Liberals smugly refer to themselves as Canada’s natural governing party, the historical record suggests it may be true, despite the danger it poses to democracy. torontosun.com/opinion/column…

@thegavinbarry @Js0nb This man made a tragic mistake, immediately accepted full responsibility, showed sincere remorse and paid the price. He’s not a gang member or career criminal and had permanent residency status. This is not the kind of person that has to be deported.

Why is the CBC hijacking this tragic event and turning it into a sob story about a hardworking immigrant getting separated from his family? Why should foreigners get special protections in this country? Jaskirat Sidhu broke the law and was ordered to be deported. It is NOT racist to enforce the law. The people are DONE with your sob story @CBCNews … Start putting Canadians first!

@guyjbreton @globeandmail Agreed. Que & maritimes have disproportionate say in electing federal govts & have exploited that advantage for decades. We don’t have representation by population, so Liberals keep getting elected. Now Carney’s illegitimate unelected majority has ended all pretense of democracy

Alberta has 12% of Canadas population. Alberta pays 17% of all federal income taxes to Ottawa. Alberta gets 9% of federal spending. Tell me why the Systemic Discrimination of western Canada is ok? Why are you ok with our vote being worth less than the rest of Canada, much less? Why are you ok that the vote of a member of the Enoch Nation in Alberta, is worth less, much less, than a member of the Mi’kmaw nation of the Annapolis valley?? Why are you ok that the vote of a member of the LGBT…. community of Calgary is worth less than someone who lives in Charlottetown? Atlantic Canada, NL,NS, NB, PE, Combined population 2.6 million people. 30 Senators 32 MPs. 1 MP per 81,250 persons Quebec. Population 8.5 million people 24 Senators 78 MPs. 1 MP per 108,000 people 3 seats on Supreme Court of Canada. Western Canada, BC, AB, SK, MB, Combined population 13.5 million people 24 Senators 104 MPs. 1 MP per 128,000 people 2 seats on the Supreme Court of Canada. Ontario Population 16.2 million 24 Senators 122 MPs. 1 MP per 132,000 people Alberta Population 4.9 million 6 Senators 37 MPs. 1 MP per 135,000 people. We have been fighting for fair representation into the governance of Canada for decades….and I haven’t even touched on the financial pillaging of our taxes….$700,000,000,000.00 since the 1960s.. That is a whole other argument We are done. Canada can piss off.
