Since December 2025, interns at @OAuthc have not been paid salaries, with multiple arrears outstanding. Many of us rely on this income for basic survival. This is really unfair 4 months salary outstanding😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

We respectfully seek your intervention and public advocacy concerning the prolonged non-payment of interns working at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC). For the past eleven months, interns have rendered uninterrupted clinical services at OAUTHC. However, only six months’ salary has been paid, and even that was not in full. To date, our December salary remains unpaid, alongside several months of outstanding arrears. Despite this situation, interns are still being mandated to report for duty. Although an industrial action is currently ongoing, interns have been specifically instructed to continue working without pay. Repeated pleas, formal complaints, and peaceful protests have yielded no meaningful resolution. The consistent explanation given by hospital management is that payment has not been released from Abuja. This explanation, however, is misleading. Unlike other staff whose salaries are federally funded, interns’ remuneration is paid directly by the hospital management, not from Abuja. Notably, other hospital staff have continued to receive their salaries, while interns remain unpaid. This situation has placed immense financial, emotional, and psychological strain on young healthcare professionals who are expected to work under demanding conditions without compensation. It raises serious concerns about labour rights, workplace ethics, and the welfare of medical interns in Nigeria. Day 3 of asking @oauthcofficial to pay 2025/2026 interns… Since the year began, interns have not received a penny for their duties. The last partial salary they received was for December. This is not fair, interns need money to survive. @JAOOKENIYI

Day 11 of OAUTHC interns demanding payment of all outstanding salaries and arrears. It’s Monday, and interns are still hoping, against all odds, to be paid for the work we have already done, so our story does not end like that of past interns who were owed and quietly forgotten.

We got about 95% of December salary after public pressure. Now our payslips say we were paid the full amount. Our bank alerts say something else. Why do our payslips say full payment? Which one should we believe? We're exhausted. @JAOOKENIYI Please just do the right thing

For clarity, this is the only memo released, on January 24th, after sustained online pressure. This directly contradicts claims that @oauthcofficial management and CMD @JAOOKENIYI releases memos “almost every month” to address the issue.

@oauthcofficial Enough of these lies. No official meeting was held,and the only memo the interns received was after the public pressure stating that the last personnel funds they received from FG was in October 2025. The management keep twisting the whole narratives.

The management of @oauthcofficial & CMD @JAOOKENIYI should, in their best interest, clear all outstanding salaries and arrears owed to the current interns to avoid attracting external intervention or tarnishing the prestigious hospital’s image. This norm of ...
