Today we honor Alabama’s own Gee’s Bend Quilters. Beginning in the early 20th century, this community of Black women achieved economic independence by crafting quilts from scrap textiles. I was honored to welcome them to our nation’s capital in 2022! #BlackHistoryMonth

Today for #BlackHistoryMonth we honor Ashley M. Jones, Alabama's first Black Poet Laureate and the youngest person to ever hold the position. Her poetry exploring the impact of the Deep South on Black men and women has received national recognition!
