@JamesSurowiecki First, the vast majority of engagement on this platform is bots that 'joined' in 2025 and no earlier than 2022. Second, this platform has automated those bots and attached that automation to select accounts. Third, having Covid has affected the cognitive abilities of millions.

The number of people who did not understand that this tweet was sarcastic is genuinely shocking - and funny.

De-boosting links made this site much less useful for both writers and readers. A big chunk of Twitter's value was that it was a one-stop shop where you would find links to a host of new and interesting pieces. These pieces were outside Twitter, but connecting readers to them made the site invaluable. Very different now.

In April of 2023, I was getting a third of my Substack traffic from Twitter. By August it was 1-2%. A quick Google search reveals that Elons first major algorithm tweak was in the Spring 2023. I saw the impact of that in real time.

@herbgreenberg @JamesSurowiecki I hear you, but maybe we can build it. The situation here, where the headline on the right column for trending says, "President Cheered at Kennedy Center" click over to see the relevant posts, the crowds are jeering and booing.

Question for all the 12s today... Who is the "dark horse" prospect at a position that isn't perceived an area of need that you could see the #Seahawks drafting with their first pick? Either at #32 or after a trade down. Writing a lengthy piece on the subject on @EmeraldSpectrum.

People have the right to spend their money as they see fit. I'm certainly not going to be begging anyone to spend their hard-earned coin on sports writing if they don't want to. But we have the right to support our families too. And $6/month is a steal for what we offer.

That's your choice. We aren't going to ask or beg anyone pay for our content. But we also aren't giving it away for free either.

I write this because I see yet another group of talented people being jettisoned by a company that just was part of a merger and now is unloading the talent that made the company valuable to begin with. It's gross. Tired of seeing it happen again and again.

Something that I've truly learned last couple years: At the end of the day, we're all replaceable and/or dispensable. People running these companies only care about bottom line and their bank account. Not us. But your time with your family, friends? That isn't replaceable.

@Mitch_Seattle I've been to hundreds of games in Boston, Los Angeles and Seattle. Always sit along the first base line as close to the field as I can afford. And I've never even been in the same section that a ball has fallen into. So if I caught a ball like that, sorry, I'm taking it home.

@atrupar So Paramount had around $12 billion in debt and it bought Warners which has more than $32 billion in debt. What could go wrong!

@qdiggs6 And McDonald didn't move him to safety, Carroll and his coaches first made the move. Bryant did all he was asked to do and mor while he was a Seahawk. He deserves all this new opportunity has to offer.

cmon man what’s up with some of y’all? Take a discount on his first chance and maybe only chance to get paid? but also why can’t we just be happy he helped deliver another SB to the city and everyone can’t get paid from the Seahawks?
HawkMania@hawkmania4

I kind of thought #Bears Coby Bryant would at least take a coaches discount because HC Mike Macdonald moved him from CB to S. Macdonald, basically to me, saved his career because if Bryant stayed at CB, I think he wouldn't be a starter or paid this much. So thank you, HC Mike Macdonald for saving his career so that Coby Bryant can get paid to play for the bears, I guess.

@JamesSurowiecki I would say that film is about more than just visually interesting shots. It’s about performance, dialogue, context (in this case, suspense), and framing. The director on this film drew great performances from the full cast, as Curtiz did on Casablanca, for example.

@CorbinSmithNFL It's clear both teams understand that they could have won a Super Bowl this year, but they couldn't get past Seattle. In the case of the Rams it was such a bitter loss they couldn't get over it. So both are tooling up figuring their championship windows are still open.

@BradyHenderson You were so right about Walker. You've been saying he wouldn't be back since September. His value changed, his value to the Hawks changed, but they moved on from him.

The next time, and every subsequent time, anybody tries to tell me the NBA is better today: “Bam Adebayo scored 83 points in a game.” The 1989 Detroit Pistons wouldn’t let him score 83 points RIGHT NOW. Call Dennis Rodman.

@BradyHenderson @JFowlerESPN Things are going just the way you wrote they would. I don't see paying Bryant when you have Love and Emmanwori to pay. Good edge rushers in the draft to replace Mafe. What I don't see is replacing Walker.
