What’s actually a myth is that Black officers can’t be racist—and a police department with a Black police chief and/or a large number of Black officers can’t be racist. Black officers also brutalize + murder Blacks, Black chiefs defend officers of all races, and they all get off.

White friends: Kindness is not antiracism. In a whirlwind of systemic racism, kindness without antiracism is racism. This is me being kind: helping us recognize the insidiousness of our racism. This is the only kind of kind I have for us today.
