@PuckWatchingSTL @STLBluesMuse It wasn't just injuries, trading Schenn and Faulk galvanized this group. Last year there were 9 teams under .500, this year there are 4. That means you dont have to be terrible to be a bottom team. This was an opportunity, a unique scenario to draft top 5.

@STLNoteFan314 @STLBluesMuse The blues had the worst goaltending in the NHL and everyone underachieving almost the entire. Didn’t win 3 games in a row until March and a game in OT until mid January. They are not a bottom feeder team. They were gonna turn it around eventually when they got healthy again.

As people in my replies point out, the fact that the Blues went on a run like this mainly propped up by young players that they will have control of for a while is very good I just think the value of a top 3 pick to this franchise's future specifically is absurdly high

@PuckWatchingSTL @STLBluesMuse Pal, even an improved .600 point pace would've kept us in the bottom 4. .750 points % post olympics was crazy. We suffered through FIVE months of shit hockey, including a healthy Oct,Nov,Dec for Thomas ans Holloway. And this is our reward, no playoffs and no high pick.

@STLNoteFan314 @kniznerfan Right, they were bad when Thomas and Holloway were out, broberg missing time too. Schenn being an anchor didnt help. Once healthy and dead weight aside, the teams too good to truly be one of the worst 2 or 3 teams in the league

I don’t really understand Blues fans being explicitly anti-tank. Do you think #10 helps you more than #3? Do you just dislike that side of twitter? No one is saying you needed to dump Thomas, Holloway, and Snuggerud for a seventh rounder to finish the year off

@JordanHiser @kniznerfan That is not always the case. There was a legit race to the bottom for the Lemieux draft. Unrealistic? Did you watch this teams first 58 games? We were tied for 2nd worst in the league. This stretch of play(.750 points %) is the only thing that's unrealistic.

@kniznerfan @JordanHiser This season was also unique in that you could hover around .500 and still be in the bottom 5. So you didnt have to be the Canucks level bad to end up in the top 3 in the draft. Development is just as important as scouting, I think the Blues do really well with both.

@JordanHiser I really haven’t seen anyone advocate for a tankjob that wasn’t just for the rest of this season. Grab the prospect, swap whoever, and go at it again. You’re immediately better and in a better spot for the future. I wouldn’t want a multi-season rebuild personally

@danreilly The mushy middle fans must be loving this. Blues playing themselves out of 2nd overall to finish outside of the playoffs at likely 10-15th overall for the draft. Losing out on drafting a difference maker on the wing/#1 dman for our future.

He's on the wrong side of thirty and by the time the Blues are back to a playoff contender he'll be 33-34. They should've traded him

@Walter_Sobchak0 @ArtLippo2 How Army fixes mistakes is definitely relevant. Nothing here is in a vacuum. He's in the way for our winger prospects for the next FIVE seasons. We're paying him for the player he was 3 years ago. He could've fetched premium assets before his extension. Full NTC.

@Walter_Sobchak0 @ArtLippo2 I think you could easily put the Buchnevich contract right in the middle of that. Yeah, Lehtera wasn't good, but he wiggled his way out of that and got us Schenn. Same for Bergy with O'Reilly. Any move leading to the cup winning team is not in my top ten.
