Giorgi Revishvili@revishvilig

A group of investigative journalists, including @michaeldweiss, obtained another intercepted conversation between Hungary’s FM Péter Szijjártó and Lavrov. It appears that Moscow may have been able to access virtually any information it sought from the EU/NATO via Budapest.

This is unreal: "As tensions escalated, one U.S. official went so far as to invoke the Avignon Papacy, the period in the 1300s when the French Crown leveraged its military power to dominate the papal authority. The Department of Defense and the Nunciature did not respond to requests for comment."
Mattia Ferraresi@mattiaferraresi

The Trump administration summoned a Vatican diplomat to the Pentagon, and during the tense meeting a U.S. official invoked the Avignon Papacy. On July 4, the American pope will be in Lampedusa -- he didn't pick that date by accident. @TheFP thefp.com/p/why-the-vati…

I spoke today with Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian, as well as with U.S. President Donald Trump. I told both of them that their decision to accept a ceasefire was the best possible one. I expressed my hope that the ceasefire will be fully respected by each of the belligerents, across all areas of confrontation, including in Lebanon. This is a necessary condition for the ceasefire to be credible and lasting. It must open the way to comprehensive negotiations capable of ensuring security for all in the Middle East. Any agreement will have to address the concerns raised by Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs, as well as its regional policy and its actions obstructing navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. This is how a strong and lasting peace can be built, with the support of all those who are able to contribute to it. France will play its full part, in close coordination with its partners in the Middle East. This is also what I discussed today in my exchanges with the leaders of Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, and Iraq.

And that's a wrap. In his sixth(!) campaign stop today across Hungary, @magyarpeterMP is greeted by an enthusiastic crowd in Nagykanizsa, in southwestern Hungary. I have not seen this type of grassroots political movement in Hungary since the fall of Communism in 1989. 🙏🏼🇭🇺🕊️

SCOOP: The Trump administration is considering a plan to punish some members of the NATO alliance that it believes were unhelpful to the U.S. and Israel during the Iran war, according to administration officials. The proposal would involve moving U.S. troops out of NATO countries deemed unhelpful to the Iran war effort and station them in countries that were more supportive of the U.S. military campaign wsj.com/world/europe/t… @AnnieLinskey @RobbieGramer

❗️Hungary’s collaboration with Russia is no longer speculation; it is documented. 🇪🇺 cannot function if a Member State actively undermines its security and unity. All tools must be used now, including suspending 🇭🇺 voting rights under Article 7 TEU. @EP_Defence @EPPGroup

One expert analysis I saw calculated that if Iran charges a $2mm per ship toll, and Hormuz transits return to average levels, it would earn Iran up to $71B annually. Even just a toll on oil/gas earns $21B, which is 3x Iran's current defense budget. This is a huge win for Iran.
Jonathan Karl@jonkarl

This morning, I asked President Trump if he’s okay with the Iranians charging a toll for all ships that go through the Strait of Hormuz, he told me there may be a Joint US-Iran venture to charge tolls: “We’re thinking of doing it as a joint venture. It’s a way of securing it — also securing it from lots of other people.” “It’s a beautiful thing”
